They also need games...more games please. The 3 or 4 heavy hitters they have set is sweet but not enough to fill in for the next year or 2. they need good third party games to fill in the gaps like X1 and PS4 currently have.

But seriously, i'd say

1) Fuck third parties (as in, the big, multiplat publishers). They don't want you, don't bother trying to get them, fighting for them is a fool's errand. Make a device that's easy to program for and try to siphon what you can from mobile/indie development to round out the library.

2) Make it day-one profitable; any hardware that could get in the way of that (like the gamepad) isn't worth pursuing.

3) Integrate it with the handheld development environment to maximize library, both first and third party.

4) (Something they did right this gen and should continue) more third party partnerships with Nintendo IP to help diversify brand exposure. Just don't think that they're going to attract the mainline franchises because of that. Fund more orphaned third party games, as long as you think they can turn a profit or at least break even.

I like these Nintendo takeaways, lets hope they learn this... I personally love the WiiU. Such a great little console.

I do think that one good thing for Nintendo is that the failure of the WiiU gives them the opportunity to break the GC->Wii->WiiU link and start fresh. No need to worry about Power PC, and GPU backwards compatibility.

With that in mind, they do need a low cost capable platform that devs are familiar with and can be applid to both handheld and home console.

They need to create new expreience games for casuals



PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

You can get it for $200 from Nintendo refurbished (looked new when I got it and it's the 32gb model with Nintendoland) and you can play Mario Kart and soon Smash.  Those alone make it worth it if you have friends to play with it.  If you're more solo play some Donkey Kong Country, Mario 3d World (also great with friends), NSMBU, Bayonetta, and some others.  Trust me it's a fun system and even has some great VC support (I'm currently playing ALttP on it and it's great being able to save wherever you want).  You won't regret it and if they do announce a new console you can sell before the general public hears so that you still get some money out of it.

It only applies for the given figures, so it says nothing about the productions costs/losses/profits per unit at this moment

I agree with all (especially 4 that would give them more games, and more focus on main and new IPs) but number 1. Are they even trying, to be so unsuccessful with 3rd party ? What I heard is that their development kit are not on par with Sony/MS and that the documentation suck. How much did they lowered their license fee that were the highest before the PS1 ? Do they offer money and support like everyone else ?

I mean some studios had such a great relationship with Sony they offered themselves to be bought. The very little I heard from Nintendo is that F-Zero GX was not good for Miyamoto, that they don't need rare anymore, and I read something about the Argonaut Games studio (the first starfox) boss complaining how much their relationship with Nintendo had been disappointed (used and thrown away).

I could be wrong, but it's hard to think that with their massive money and massive Wii success, they fought to get 3rd party, but it failed all because of 3rd party attitude.



I'm wondering what people define as profitable. Profitable in 2015? Profitable between 2015-2017? Or profitable overall, an in development costs, research, etc?

Because if it's the third, I don't think it will ever be profitable, just like the ps3 wasn't. The only difference is that consumers ended up being happy with their ps3's and bought ps4's, while the same can't be said about the wii. The wiiu is not helping with the reputation of the company. As a potential customer, right now I don't feel like risking buying their next console because I think it will face a similar fate.

No. It was a bad project and the controller was a big mistake. It lacks the horsepower to get 3rd party support and these issues are making Nintendo lose the share of games that want 3rd party games. They need to sit down, learn with their mistakes and work with 3rd parties to get at the same level than the competitors. Seeing interviews with directors/CEOs and so, the don't look too much interested on it, so things look grim right now.



Nothing at this point. The U doesn't have even one game with a solid release date for 2015...
