Forums - Gaming - Symmetric VS. Asymmetric Sticks: the final battle

Sym. Only because more controllers are like that. I don't really care. Except sometimes I try to move a joystick that is actually below me lol.

N64, dreamcast, GameCube and all Xbox controllers have a thumb stick akin to asymetrical feel. So there a lot of controllers with asymetrical.

I like both. I'm just as competent no matter where the sticks are placed. If I really had to choose though, I'd go with asymmetric. It is just a bit comfier.

I guess since I never use a Xbox, don't own a DC, I don't see it that way. But why say N64? it only has one. And you use it all the time anyway.

Yep, about that, a bit of Nintendo history:

Gamecube:

Wii:

Wii U:

WTF?

Can use both, prefer Symmetrical, Gamecube and PlayStation controllers vastly outweigh my Xb usage.

Nothing beats mouse and keyboard.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Symmetrical. Especially for any shooter. Even none shooters, I prefer it but that's just because of I'm used to it.

Hmm, pie.

On the n64 movement forward for example is the same as asymetrical. Push forward. As opposed to diagonal with thumb on symetrical.

Symmetrical for me. I use the 360 controller on some PC games and it's a bitch to handle.

I don't think symmetrical vs. asymmetrical fully captures the situation. The placement and proximity of the sticks, within each layout, is also important. For example, I like the symmetrical design of the DualShock 4 but I strongly dislike the sticks bunched up at the center of the controller. It makes the controller less comfortable than the Pro Controller and Xbox One controller, which feature symmetrical and asymmetrical layouts, respectively.

So I think symmetry is less important than spacing and height, when it comes to analog sticks.

You just couldn't vote for your console controller of choice, could you?
