There is a chance but there's no way Nintendo will reclaim the mantle of being the top dog in home console gaming. The gamecube was the last ditch effort for that, granted they made a few bad choices like the mini-disc, the name, and look of the console, it was the last hurrah. I tried hard to promote it, I got several friends to buy, and anyone that came to my house I encouraged to play it. I think Wii U will be the last nintendo home console system I buy early on, I'll just wait until price drops and it has a solid library and I'll probably buy refurbished. Nothing against the company, I've been a loyalist since 1986 but I'm finally seeing the writing on the wall.

We may see some kind of return of sports game.

I think many more companies are open to specialized partnership with Nintendo than you might think, provided the Big N foots the bill and may be willing to lend their IP (much like with Hyrule Warriors, Bayo 2, Pokken Fighters)

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I think Nintendo needs to ensure the basic support for the console to be considered an option, and for that it is missing at least a soccer game (if not FIFA at least PES) and a popular FPS like Call of Duty or Battlefield, many people only play those kind of games on their console and sparkle the experience with exclusive software, which for the Wii U is very strong (MK8, Smash, 3D World among others). If you add that online is free, it could regain a second air and improve a little its numbers. But for that it needs third party support not a lot but at least some, since is those kind of games the ones that Nintendo itself does not produce.

No, and frankly I don't care. I wish people would just let it go. Nintendo has not gotten third party support since the early 90s. They never will again. Why? Because there now exist faceless and souless corporate machines who are willing to bend at the will of the third party powers that be, and be their puppets. As long as these mega corporations have a foothold in the industry and keep making hardware, Nintendo will never be favored by the third parties. And you know what? That is completely fine with me. Most of the stuff they crank out is rehashed and/or uninspired garbage that I simply don't care for. The only benefit of having third parties on Nintendo is that the rare gems that DO come out, usually don't sell and thus drop like a rock in price, and I am therefore able to snatch them up on the cheap.

Bolded: You mean like when Microsoft did a 180 on the DRM issues and screwed developers, or refused to let Bungie run free in their creative effort, eventually leading to the loss of the most important developer in their roster? Or like Sony and MS refusing to implement region locks for games on their hardware for two generations? Or like when Nintendo forced Dan Adelman off of Twitter and refused him to talk to Indie developers making interviews and rather insisted they talk to the corporate face, being perceived as "locked gate community" and a "brick wall", essentially being more soulless and faceless than anyone else in the console hardware race? Or Sony helping the Indie scene more than any others besides Steam?

Still fighting the good fight I see. I can't believe after all these years that you're still playing the same fiddle and insisting that Nintendo's lack of support is none of their own doing and relies solely upon the 3rd parties and MS and Sony taking it up the proverbial behind. Also still insisting that 3rd party games are of very poor quality and more or less worthless. Nintendo continued the Wii Fit and Wii Sports series and NSMB in the exact same formula, make Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong and Pokemon their go-to franchises and have even started the whole evil DLC thing and resort to HD remakes and remakes in general and you berate others for rehashes and uninspired garbage? Such incredibly old and stylized rhetoric, I find it strange that you get so agitated by people who perpetuate Nintendo myths and generalize when you do the exact same thing yourself about others.

If you want to change your view on 3rd party games; you should buy a gaming PC, it's a completely different world.

On topic; no they will not, they're not interested in joining market movements or making the slightest compromise and haven't been for decades. 3rd parties will stay away and Nintendo will be left to carry their consoles alone with extended cost and development time.

Some people can't handle DRM & unoptimized games. But still, there is better service, GOG. They're old school PC games, yeah.

GOG is amazing, I currently have 41 titles on my account there now! CDProjekt is a breath of fresh air in the industry.

GOG is also selling more new titles now than before and they completely revamped the store and user interface a few weeks ago, such a fantastic site.
