Forums - Sony - If Sony Goes Belly up Who Would be the Safest Pair of Hands for the Playstation Brand?

As many others have stated already, I would have to say Samsung. Even though this would certainly be out of their wheelhouse a bit they certainly have the means and ability to continue the Sony legacy. Like any company that has never made a console they could certainly completely screw it up as well, obviously. I would not want freakin' Google anywhere near it. They would probably just use it as another source to collect even more information on our lives than they already do. I mean, all companies are doing that but Google takes it to a whole new level.

Someone mentioned ASUS and I think that is an interesting choice as well. That would be a company I would put on my list but would not have immediately come to mind.

Around the Network

Microsoft. They seem similar to Sony but with more money.

I would prefer if PlayStation could somehow be turned into it's own company. It would not make sense for Nintendo or Microsoft to take the PlayStation name since they have their own brands. Apple isn't a content-oriented company so they wouldn't be a good choice. Sega could probably afford to buy Sony Computer Entertainment, but then they would have to invest in console development and manufacturing and they probably wouldn't and couldn't do that. Samsung, Amazon, and Google might be somewhat better, but I'm not sure if they could manage the PlayStation brand very well.

Nintendo would be ideal. It would be a perfect marriage.

agreed it would be like disney and whatever company disney release their more adult films through. the sony brand could be used to sell games that have more adult content and nintendo wouldnt lose their child friendly appeal. it would be unstoppable imo

Nippon Telegraph & Tel (basically the Japanese government)

Already an internet/tv/Mobile provider, so Sony would bring an interesting array of new products that would integrate nicely.

Or Mitsubishi group. They have a huge insurance arm (largest revenue pice of Sony) and electronics (would benefit from Sony patents definitely) since it's really just a conglomerate of smaller.companies, it could easily let playstation/music/Columbia pictures stay the same, just under the Mitsubishi brand instead of Sony.
