2017/2018 most likely, I'm curious to hear what people's LT predictions for 3DS are.

After reading this thread I feel like people are still expecting 85+. I feel bad for them.

Indeed, the decline for the 3DS this year has been pretty steep and unless that can somehow be reversed, it's going to be a struggle in the near future. I also do not see the PS4 doing sub-PS3 numbers.

I don't think any of the consoles will pass up the 3DS.

Consoles owned: Wii U wii gamecube DS DS lite DSi 3DS Xbox 360 Gameboy Gameboy color Gameboy advance Gameboy Advance sp Gameboy micro and PC.

I think 3DS has a comfy lead

XBOX ONE/Wii U/3DS/PC

RIP Iwata 12/6/1959-7/11/2015

Thanks for all the great memories!

I can't believe the number of people who say never, ps3 sold 80+ millions and ps4 sales are a lot better then ps3 in the same time frame and their is no sign of changing 3ds in other hand is tracked a lot worse then PSP this year in USA so even if possible it's not sure that 3DS will doing better then PSP.
I would say ps4 will outsell 3ds in 2018

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Not saying i predict it being so high but i will say its not impossible, just not very likely at all, my prediction is 70mil for now, all depends on the N3ds

Or they think the new 3DS will change everything, but it wont be more than a bump for a while and will help for christmas, not more, the rise of the next gen will make people forget about the console getting old, it's not like it was a new console needed to play games exclusives (more than few remakes)on N3DS ( and if it was, it would be a new console so the sales couldnt be counted with 3DS sales)

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

I can't understand why anybody would think the PS4 has no chance to pass the 3DS. Should happen in 2017.

This, it's not even sure 3DS can reach 70M, it's tracking behind GBA so it's unlikely for now unless new 3DS is the big savior and not just a bump in sales for a while.

About PS4, it's obvious that the console will at least reach 100M in such domination position.

It doesn't matter how its tracking under the GBA, its a matter of multiple things, that said i think the 3ds if it had a successor in early 2016, then 57mil - 60mil look like a good lifetime for it, but im sure it'll get close to that 70mil now or maybe even surpass it.

As for ps4, its not obvious its going to hit at least 100mil (though i believe it will), nothing is guaranteed in the long run which has been proven countless times :0

No it really isn't.  We know what's coming out for the PS4. There is no reason for such a tremendous increase in demand.  It would basically have to outsell the Wii in its best year in the span of 2 months. We can be about 99% positive that Sony cannot produce 30 million units, ship them to stores, and get them into customer's hands within about 2 months.  It's basically impossible.

As for the PS4 never catching up, that's possible.  With price cuts and a new model, 3DS sales could go up, and it could have a pretty good tail life.  New software could always aid it, Amiibo can be big, it could interact with the QOL platform in a novel way, etc.  PS3 and 360 had really strong 5th, 6th, and even 7th years, so it's possible for that to happen to the 3DS and it could get pretty nice sales.

It's not likely that the 3DS will stay ahead of the PS4 for it's lifetime, but it's FAR more possible than the PS4 outselling the 3DS in any timeframe that can reasonably considered "soon" and infinitely more possible than the PS4 outselling the 3DS by the end of the year.

I love how people let their assumptions get the best of them. I never said it would happen this year, now did i? It's funny people find "Soon'' more weird than "Never"

Soon.

Right, PS4 will sell 30 million units more by the end of the year...

That chance of that happening is bigger than ''never''

So... there is where you said the chances of the PS4 selling 30 million units more by the end of the year is more likely than it not outselling the 3DS.

Pretty much, it's looking like the N3DS will more or less be the system's swan song and maybe a way for Nintendo to experiment the ideas they have with their next handheld in a more or less controlled environment (kind of like the DSi). I don't think they'll throw enough support for it to make a difference anyways at risk of isolating consumers and forcing them to buy a new model probably only a few years away from the sucessor.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
