I think Xbox one is hugely undertracked. Firstly China alone is over 100k first 24 hours. EU seems way off and US I predict is now already microsofts.

There will be some big changes when Microsoft reveals its shipped numbers. Xbox one will get a big boost on this site then.

VGChartz adjusted the XOne down after the last shippment number.

It went from about 800k shipped, but not sold to about 1.2mi in late July.

Plus, people will say that MS overshipped last quarter due to expecting high sales on the hollydays.

imho xone is slowing becoming a niche machine like WiiU.Basically if you like Xbox games, you already have the machine(or plan to pick it up anyway),thus, the games don't move enough HW even when the software is on fire.

There are more than 80 million 360 users and currently about 17 million people who bought a next-gen system, and this is leaving out PS3 owners who bought a PS4. I see there is quite a big crowd that can still move on to either or both systems, about 145 million people that is.

That is not a very smart way to analyse numbers or more specifically "user bases".

Here are some questions to to consider

  • How many of those 80M (either on 360/PS3) were multiplatform gamers (had a PS3 +360)
  • How many of those people bought more than one console because the first one as defective and just tossed the first one away?
The ebst way to guage an active console user base is actually from looking at software sales across very different genres. Eg, at the time of GTAV release there were over 150M PS360s in the wild. Yet the game sold around 30M copies. Thats seeling to 20% of the total install base. Then you look at gams like COD, GT/Forza, FIFA/Madden...etc and the percentage sell through will give you an idea of just how many people actually have a console that they are using actively.
This active user base indicates those that are most likely to make a jump.
Then you also consider things like how right now both platforms require subscriptions to their services for online play. This will make multiplatform ownership between the two even less likely this generation. No point paying for two online services.
This is not all saying there aren't tens of millions of people still waiting to jump in, there definately are, just that its not as black and white as you make it sound.
Also somemore thinsg to consider.
  1. Its not like the PS4 was released a year before the XB1, they were released within a week of eachother depending on regions. But some how in just under a year the PS4 has already managed to double its lead of the XB1. The interesting thing about that ties into the next point,
  2. The people that are buying consoles now are the early adopter and the hardcore gamers. The casuals have not jumped in yet. The people buying now are the loyalists or those that are switching loyalties. And so far that is all playing in favor of the PS4 and this ties into the last point,
  3. The casuals basically buy what everyone else is buying or what they are told by the hardcore is the best thing to buy. Word of mouth is what sells consoles to the casuals more than everything. They walk into theri friends room and see that friend playing on a new console and thats wht they go out to buy. These people are not loyal to any platform. Thats why Playstation could lose over 50% of its market share from PS2 to PS3. The more of points (1) and (2) we have, the more point (3) will happen. This has been the case for every single console in history.

Then again you completely let out Wii numbers which also have to be considered.

I just wanted to put in some more perspective and it doesn't mean there are no multi console owners there already and there won't be.

But these are numbers we can't be certain of. In the end there is still a great number of potential customers which haven't decided yet (like me ) and the future is not already set and it's good it isn't, for the sake of competition.

I'm talking about september onwards. Xbox one has been getting lots of praise. Releasing in lots more territories and its exclusives are gaining review traction. The order also getting more bad press. Halo mcc is also gonna move consoles especially in us. I believe Xbox one has been outselling ps4 for a couple weeks already. I know quite a few who recently in the last few weeks upgraded from 360 to one. And some ps4 owners who now also have a one. We will see.

I think it's fair to say it will take a miracle that xbox can outsell PS4 for one week Globally... in the world.

Not sure if I trust these sales results....

Sales look quite lowe in the EU and even NA considering it was FH2 launch week.

I could be that FH2 did absolutely nothing to move consoles, but I think that X1 was simply undertracked for the week.

Eh, normal week for XB1 in Europe is around 15k, sometimes less. I don't see 28k as being low.

I think that the only possible scenario now for the XBO winning a week is the PS4 selling more than supply in December. It's very possible the PS4 is unobtainable during the Christmas period in Europe and being scarce enough in USA.

This drop in PS4 purchases would be coupled with would-be buyers that will opt for the XBO as it being in stock instead.

Not saying this is a definite but a possibility

"Globally in the US", it will!
Worldwide... I doubt it, because of Europe.

Europe? More like because of Earth.

Why is VG assuming xone sold every single of the 100,000 xone to customers in China. And why are they adding it to the tally. I remember they could add Sony's officially released sales numbers because they could figure out a way to adjust the numbers to make them add up but for xbox they just assume it sold out everywhere and added the number mysteriously to the total.
