Forums - Gaming - Assassin’s Creed Dev Says Industry Is Dropping 60fps

Cinematic experience ? I dont want to watch a movie I want to play a fluid game. Then why not 24 fps instead of 30. Yeah its retarded. Well its good that there is PC if you want 60 fps.

Ssssshhhh, don't give them any ideas, they'll lock the PC version to 30fps too "to avoid debates"...

There is some truth in his comments, but in many cases its not like they had a choice; the hardware they were using simply didn't have the grunt to achieve 60fps. The simple fact is that this generation of consoles is underpowered.
Think about how people line up for days to spend $600 on an iPhone 6 despite minimal differences in the current phone they only bought 1 year ago for $600.... They are happy to do it.
Why then are people reluctant to spend that kind of money and more on a new console which only comes around every 6-8 years? Perhaps it's a residual effect from the poor PS3 first year sales but the industry is very wary of price point. If PS4, Wii U or Xbone weren't so concerned with price maybe 1080p/60fps wouldn't be this holy grail of gaming that devs seem incapable of delivering....

The mobile phone market is huge compared to console market. Alot of people that dont buy Consoles buy Phones and they are willing to spend more. A Phone is just something hundreds of millions of people every year are willing to spend big money on.  Its also a thing that is used daily hours long people can justify spending more on those things.

But not beyond Ubisoft, especially of late.

Huh? Ratchet & Clank was never 60fps as there has not been one on PS4 yet.

I agree.  60fps beats pixels.

Ubisoft forked tongue strikes again. First they say it's not cinematic, then they say it's too hard. BS again. 60fps has been around on PC for a long time, some people going to 120fps. No one yet has complained about games not being cinematic.

And the movie comparison?!? Facepalm. 48 fps in movies is only bad because you can more easily see set fakery, and SFX stuff, so it can disturb immersion and suspension of disbelief. But games are all SFX so there is no issue with these things.

It would be a shame for developers to prioritise res and textures over frame rate.

Can't help but quote this for great thruth.

Its a game, not a movie. The Hobbit movie is not a game. Its a completely different form of entertainment that does not require the viewer input.
