Can you link the post? He was sad that Iwata wasn't a Christian?

I was the lucky one who moderated that post.  It was a first offense for a user who has been on the site since 2011.  The post was definitely in bad taste, but I don't think he intended for it to be as bad as it came across.  Still, I jumped right to a 1 day ban instead of sticking with a warning.  The guy did apologize for the post afterwards.

Honestly, I don't think his intent was bad at all. It was obviously inappropriate to bring up the religious views of deceased persons, but I don't he did it from a place of hate or maliciousness.

Thinking everyone will go to hell if they don't accept your world view is one of the most vile things I'ver ever heard. That post left a bad taste in my mouth and I might just make a thread on the historical Jesus because of it.

I have two related questions for when the mod team has time. No rush, just something I've been curious about.

1.) How exactly does the mod team determine if a user is an alt account? Do you have some sort of software that cross-checks the entire forum for a certain IP address? Or do you actually need two accounts to compare? Or do you have another way of checking this? Sorry for my ignorance..never really understood how forums can figure this out.

2.) If I have a hunch that a certain user is an alt-account (based on posting frequency, knowledge of users/threads, etc.), is it acceptable to report the user? Or does the mod team prefer something more solid before having the user potentially wrongfully reported?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

1) It's mostly based on IP matching but sometimes other evidence presents itself

2) feel free to report users you think are alts, but if nothing comes of the first report don't repeat it as that just means we've checked and found no evidence.

edit: though telling us any evidence you have for someone being an alt or why you have such a hunch (usually based off posting styles) is appreciated and useful so don't leave that out if you have it.

...

edit: double post

This is the point of view of many Christians Alkibiades. So you might disagree with it, but it's the community's responsibility to respect or at the very least tolerate the various religious views in the world.

The words of Jesus are "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me." and "Enter through the narrow gate (Jesus). For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it."

I don't think I need to tell you that Christians follow the words of Christ.

In this case it was of bad taste to post it, but to say that it's the most vile thing you've ever heard, well that is your opinion but the site has a duty to tolerate religious people and their personal views. Not everyone will agree on things that pertain to morality.

Jesus Christ didn't leave any written documents behind, nor did his Apostels.

So tell me, how do Christians follow the word of Christ if his words are lost forever? I really need to make that thread about the historical Jesus Christ now.

I don't need to tolerate anyone that thinks I will burn in hell for eternity.

So, then you don't tolerate more than half of the world?

If you're not going to tolerate others, then why should others tolerate you?

I don't agree with everyone and all styles of life, but it's my duty to tolerate everyone and leave dialogue open.

Also, most christians follow the bible as the recorded words of Christ, the prophets before him, and the apostles after him. If you don't believe that it's your prerogative, but don't pretend like that's the opinion of most christians.

It's a historical fact that this isn't the case, it doesn't have anything to do with believe. An opinion can be wrong so it doesn't matter if that's what most Christians think, it doesn't make them right.

As for my credentials, I have a PhD in Ancient History, specializing in early Christianity and Roman society. It will take a while before I evaluated the most important early sources about Jesus Christ, so I'll post my thread when it's ready, but it can take a while. Most of my work is in Greek and it's a pain to translate everything into English.

Thanks, I'll be sure to do that. Usually it's a matter of seeing a new user suddenly post very frequently or act more abrasive or familiar with others right after joining. It's a pattern I've noticed with some of the more famous alts here...though it's not so hard to believe that some of these users were lurkers or just have that personality.

Anyhoo, thanks for the response!
