Which is The Bigger Franchise in Japan Now? Dragon Quest or Monster Hunter

Thinking about it, its kinda hard to tell. DQ obviously would be the bigger franchise but in today's day and age they are both really close.

Your thoughts? (fyi: bigger meaning more popular, a mix of sales and media)

I would think Monster Hunter

Dragon Quest correctly done on a handheld (The 3DS, not the Vita) can still be the biggest beast of the two.

(IF correctly done on the mobile, it could be bigger as well, but revenue might not be as big early on, unless they do those cheap tactics of paying for every small thing)

It's arguably Dragon Quest. They may be relatively close sales-wise (though Monster Hunter Tri did not sold all that well), but DQ is a cultural phenomenon there. No other franchise is bigger.

It's a tough comparison because DQ hasn't even been trying this generation.

I think DQ has the edge.

BUT IT NEEDS TO COME HERE.

Dragon Quest has the upperhand. If you're basing the sales of MH4 or any of the 3DS titles vs. Dragon Quest X, that's silly because it is a JRPG MMO for a home console. It won't sell better than traditional DQs. Just wait for Dragon Quest XI. Rumor has it that it will be a PS4 exclusive with traditional Dragon Quest gameplay. AND it will release here as well.

Bigger than Pokemon?

Regardless of the troubles with DQ Lately, it would win this one.

If anything else it is much better established and probably still larger. MH has a chance to take that though if they continue on the war path.
