My question is: Will casuals buy PS3 like they did with PS2? If so, will it be only as a Blu-Ray player, and not games? (a bit like the PSP where it sells, but low game ratio)

It`s only 20 mln. Wii sold, PS3 did 120 mln. You should ask, will PS2 casuals buy PS3 like they did with PS2? Yes, they will. Soon or later they will.

PRICE(199-299$).
HD VISUALS(GRAPHICS).
AA EXCLUSIVES(FFXIII, MGS4,GT5, KZ2, LBP).

Has/Will the Wii taken away too many of the casuals, so especially if another company or Sony itself comes out with a cheap Blu-Ray only player, that would be bought rather than the PS3?

MOST Wii bought by NINTENDO FANS.

Sony already made good 40GB movie bundle, looks like they promoting PS3.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

What do you want Nintendo to do to convince you? Sell their system FASTER than their current rate? You know Nintendo might have gotten to 20 million systems faster than any console in History, right?

PS3 did 120 mln only in your pipe dreams :) Don't hold your breath unless the ps3 is in the 149-199EUR price range ....

299$ for PS3 is more then enough.

People bought 25 mln. PS2 for 300$. And 4 mln. PS3 for 600$.

@That Guy, 45 mln. by the end of 2008 will convince me. Some how i don`t really believe, that Wii Fit, SSBB and Mario Kart will able to do that.

People are scared of PS3, I think people see the 360 as being a bit friendlier to use

Second, and more importantly, it appears that Sony really does not get casual gaming. Look at Phil Harrison's statements (before he left) praising Nintendo. They wanted bigger, better, bolder. They got it ... but they seem to have left the Singstar and Buzz crowd (which helped make them a top seller -- especially in Europe) behind.

Going online is as simple as plugging in the cable (after setting up an account), I think provided a good reason (like Home) it's not that big of a hurdle.

Phil was mainly critizing Sony Japan, which according to him did not see the Eyetoy potential for Japan. I do view Wii Play and Wii Sports as competitiors to Eye Play and Eye Sports type of games, but then again it's still a different experience and people can buy more than 1 system.

I don't think games like Wii Play or Wii Sports serve as a replacement to Buzz or Singstar for people liking those games, I think most people who love Singstar and Buzz will join the PS3 family eventually.

 I don't think that will be the case once such people actually use a PS3, I agree though that mass misinformation by the US media may have caused for some unfounded fear spreading. The controller is very similar to PS1 and PS2 controllers. Games are easier to play than on a PC, Blu-Ray movie playback is pretty straight forward, no  need to pay for subscriptions to play online games or use Home, etc.

So you're expecting the Wii to more than DOUBLE its total sales in the period of 10 months? that's just absurd.

 

 In fact, I will make a bet with you that the Wii will reach 45 million before the PS3 reaches 45 million. Sound reasonable? If I lose, I'll change my Avatar to a picture of Chad Warden.  If you lose, then YOU will change your picture of a picture of Chad Warden =)))))))))
