I personally love smash bros more but I can't play it with most of my buddies, its too skill based for that. So they kinda both have their place.

For me, they were on roughly equal footing until this year, at which point Mario Kart 8 swooped in and stole the crown. Once Smash (WiiU) launches, it might be a different story.
