Forums - Sony - Anyway to play PS4 on a TV that doesn't have HDMI?

I was CONSIDERING to get a PS4 sometime at the end of 2015 if the price drops and there are more games that interest me come out

However, the TV I use for console gaming is from like, 2005 and doesn't have HDMI, my tv works with component cables, AV cables, RF switch boxes, and S video, so if there is some adapter that can convert HDMI to component/AV please give me a link on amazon or something

Dont you have a computer monitor? Use that one.

I wouldn't recommend buying the console without a HD set. I bought my PS3 when I still didn't had a HD TV and it was terrible. Get a 1080p TV and then get the console. If you can't get the TV, don't get the console. In the case of the PS4, you will still have the hassle of dealing with converters and that is terrible.

How's that?

I had only an old CRT TV when the console arrived. It was a terrible and traumatizing experience. Fortunatelly, I hooked it up to an unused 1080p 21' monitor some weeks later and things improved. But a year later I got a 40' 1080p 3D TV and I regret deeply taking so long to buy it.

You have anything on your TV that looks like this?

no

Just use a converter HDMI to Video Component but you will lost quality.

If you have DVI it will be close if you use a HDMI to DVI.

Yeah, easily.  I use an HDMI to DVI converter for my monitor, and then I use an optical audio cable to 3.5mm cable plugged into speakers.

You can get a used HD TV for twice the price of a converter.

Got mine for 120$, i don't know why but it seems having only 2 HDMI ports and 60hz refresh rate is considered outdated.

I can help.

I have one of my "PS4"s hooked up to like ten different things. Pi would know hahaha!

How good is your TV? 1080p? 720p?

If it's a great quality old TV then yeah downconverting could be unwise, but if the TV's image quality is low than a cheap converter like Pi linked to will work great.

I think my TV is whatever is after 720p, idk it is from like 2005

time to get with the program, flat screens are cheaper than a ps4. You might want to get that first, sell your current one or pawn it.
