Forums - Gaming - People blamed delays for Titanfall having weak sales on 360, but what's Destiny's excuse?

Tagged games:

I don't think Destiny's 360 sales in the USA are "weak" at all. It still did more than double what the PS3 version did (which is to be expected considering the install base difference). Not bad for a last-gen version, considering we're at the point now where we're beginning to see current-gen versions of multiplats like Madden '15 outsell the last gen versions regularly.

And what's more impressive is that the X1 version only sold 200k less than the PS4 version despite the PS4 having a larger install base by nearly 1m and the heavily promoted white PS4 Destiny bundles, which accounted for most of the PS4's hardware sales that week.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

It should have never come out on the 360. That was one of their biggest mistakes so far.

I disagree.

The X1 saw a sales boost regardless of this game being multiplatform. Also, it was likely cheaper for MS to get this exclusive by allowing it on 360.

We can't presume everyone who bought Titanfall on 360 was willing to get a X1.

Of course!  What console wouldn't get a sales boost from a hyped up game?

That is exactly where Microsoft screwed up.  By announcing that the game will also release on the XB360, a ton of potential XB1 buyers decided that they could enjoy TItanfall without buying the XB1.  They could have used this game to push the sales of the XB1 far into the summer instead of waiting for the next big game in September (Destiny).  The sales of the XB1 between March and September were lower than expected according to Microsoft.  It is well known that there is a huge spike in sales right when the game releases and quickly falls off after that.  The release of the XB360 version was something like a month after the release of the XB1 (correct me if I am wrong).  That is enough time for the hype to die down and the game sales to fall off the cliff.

So now you have a console that STILL doesn't have a single game on it that is worth spending 400 dollars on since you can pick up Titanfall on the last generation.  BUT, if they made Titanfall exclusive to XB1, then there would be a big reason to pick one up.

I can't see how you disagree with this when their strategy clearly didn't pay off....unless you think sales would be even worse if they only released it on the XB1...

Even if the sales were worse, I still feel that more XB1 sales are more beneficial long term.

It's amazing how bad software sales are but especially in europe PS3 sells actually quite good, still.
Sony is moving a lot of hardware here but seeing as the software sales are so bad I guess people only buy the cheap bundles. The "core" gamers already moved in masses.

Uhhh... sounds like you haven't played Killer Instinct (2013), the world's greatest fighting game and only available on Xbox One! (I'm only kinda joking.)

Even if Titanfall was a X1 exclusive, I'm reluctant to say it's single handedly worth getting a $400 console. There simply isn't a game that exist that would make me suggest getting a $400 console at the moment. However, Halo:MCC could change that!

I have a X1, but that's because it has numerous games I was interested in playing. Not a single game.

In the shooting genres specifically, I agree.

There was a prediction thread was some people that said the X1 was gonna get trounced like 2:1 or even 3:1. But as I predicted, in the FPS genre the X1 has a better attach rate than PS4 so that was highly unlikely.

Yeah no one said this, people said it was delayed to improve X1 sales.

Haha

I completely agree.  I have absolutely zero interest in buying a PS4 at the current moment because I dont feel that the current games justify a 400 dollar purchase when I am enjoying my free PS+ games.  I was even a first buyer of the PS3 back when it was 600 dollars.

This holiday season will finally be the reason (for many) to pick up the XB1, with the MCC collection, Sunset Overdrive, and Forza Horizon II.

7th gen died much faster than a lot of us believed really. WD and Destiny sales between PS4/Xbone and PS3/X360 give an idea of how fast it was for the new consoles to take over.
