I think what has people scratching their heads is that none of that is new or unique.  That style of combat in RPGs has been around for a long, long time.

Oh really, now. Explain to me exactly how the battle system works. Please. Enlighten us.

And what would you have replaced it with?

What on earth are you talking about?

You mention that style of combat, and condemn it for not being new. I'm just asking an explanation about it. Since you seem to know exactly how it is.

Uh.  I think you somehow missed the quote that I was replying to.  You might want to go back and read over.  My point, relative to the post quoted, is that the style of combat in question certainly did not originate with Xenoblade, nor is it uncommon in RPGs, so pointing out that they are similar doesn't really mean anything.

Game must have this, this and that for me to like it. Open mind? What's that? I already know everything there is to know about that game from the few trailers I've seen, and I decide to dislike it. It's not like the game I love...

... Then again... Why am I not playing that game I love? It's already in my collection. I just expect those people to remake it endlessly.

So you never look at a new game and think that you might not like it based on the content shown?  You don't have preferences?  Don't be silly.

You're setting yourself up to be called a hypocrite if you ever voice a negative impression about a trailer in the future.

Lack of acceptance because of sticking to personal preference, that Is what I get from this. Nobody is saying you can't have opinion. But saying " lol a band of boys" isn't really deep enough to discuss or "respect".

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.  When a new game is announced, you don't look at the trailer and think, "hm, that appeals to me," or, "none of that really interests me"?  If it doesn't, is it because of a "lack of acceptance" on your part?  So, it's your fault if a trailer doesn't rev your hype booster?

If my tongue-in-cheek comments about Bieber and his posse aren't enough to discuss, what about the rest of what I said?  How about, "my entire point is that I like diversity in my RPGs, along with the mechanic of picking up characters from different environments and circumstances as you progress and watching how they contrast and meld together as a team."  I'd say that's far from "lol a band of boys."

I do that, but I give it a good thought, I "try" to understand what is the vision behind this project. Even if it doesn't appeal to me I can discuss why, and I can also see what is good about it. If you do that you wouldn't comment with something like "oh road trip".

About the rest. Yes that is "good enough". I'd say this "buddies" theme is new and refreshing. Nomura want to tell story more about friendship and how they interact with each other (see what happens when Noctis is hurt in battle). Friends in life do have many similarities that why they stick together. Nomura wants to simulate this kind of friendship.

Edit: fixing my terrible English :(

I do express concerns when I have any about a game, and they're never superficial. Unlike most of the complaints mentioned so far in this thread.
I never pass a definite judgment about a game I've never played. And while there are games that do not interest me, I don't go try to poop on people's enthusiasm by sharing my dislike of it. I know... Not many people like that here.

There is no diversity in FF games characters, all of them are walking cookie cutter cliches that have persisted for over 10 years now and that's from someone that actually likes the games, you're building this link between race/gender and diversity here that simply doesn't exist in a FF game, that is diversity in nothing but the visual aspect, the character cliches used are still all the same. Example: Yuffie-Selfie-Rikku-Vanille are all essentially the same character, Cloud and Lighting are also the same freaking character, the gender change added no diversity at all.

Also this whole melding together as a team thing is done in such a shallow way in past FF games that it's actually ridiculous to even try and make a point about it for this specific FF, that is even disregarding the very real possibility of there being more playable characters joining at later points in the game.

Which is fine, it really is, but it doesn't get me excited.  I watch a fair amount of Korean and Japanese drama and this reminds me of the type that centers on a group of cute guys who flock around one cute guy in particular.  The usual pattern is to introduce group stress, often with the introduction of a female character, often with the "second in command" having conflict with the main character.  There is typically a point of emphasis on the main character maturing.

I'm very much getting that vibe with FF15.

Unfortunately, I don't really like that style of drama, though it's quite popular in Japan.  I'm fairly certain that the story here has its basis in that trend.

I find the inverse a lot more interesting, where the main character is the lone female, such as You're Beautiful or Boys Over Flowers, since they typically have much more outward conflict as opposed to general angst, and I would be a ton more interested in FF15 if we get playable segments from Stella's point of view.  I actually think there is a good chance of that, to be honest, but there is nothing of that in this trailer, which is what I have to go by.

What link between gender and diversity?  When did I say the other characters would have to all be female?  And what's wrong with physical diversity?

I'm going have to disagree with you.  I look at FF9 and I see characters who are far different from one another.  That creates contrast and conflict between characters.  They have different backgrounds that shape how they interact with the world.  Even FF10 had a good amount of diversity between characters.  Are those character similar to characters from other games?  Absolutely.  Who cares, though, as those are different games.

I understand your preferences. I would also like that if such a theme is presented. However, it is not. And that is not a good reason to flood every topic about the game with negativity ( not you in particular, but the general behavior ). There is nothing wrong with different theme than we would like. One is not superior than other. Difference, there is nothing more to it.

*Downloads the trailer on full HD*..  Wow
