I do that, but I give it a good thought, I "try" to understand what is the vision behind this project. Even if it doesn't appeal to me I can discuss why, and I can also see what is good about it. If you do that you wouldn't comment with something like "oh road trip".
About the rest. Yes that is "good enough". I'd say this "buddies " theme is new and refreshing. Nomura want to tell story more about friendship and how they interacting with each other " see what happens when Noctis us hurt in battle". Friends in life do have many similarities that why they stick together. Nomura wants to simulate that kind of friendship.

Which is fine, it really is, but it doesn't get me excited. I watch a fair amount of Korean and Japanese drama and this reminds me of the type that centers on a group of cute guys who flock around one cute guy in particular. The usual pattern is to introduce group stress, often with the introduction of a female character, often with the "second in command" having conflict with the main character. There is typically a point of emphasis on the main character maturing.
I'm very much getting that vibe with FF15.
Unfortunately, I don't really like that style of drama, though it's quite popular in Japan. I'm fairly certain that the story here has its basis in that trend.
I find the inverse a lot more interesting, where the main character is the lone female, such as You're Beautiful or Boys Over Flowers, since they typically have much more outward conflict as opposed to general angst, and I would be a ton more interested in FF15 if we get playable segments from Stella's point of view. I actually think there is a good chance of that, to be honest, but there is nothing of that in this trailer, which is what I have to go by.
