And how is it valueted then??? Show us how you get to a 2.5B value and return?

I'm not Gordon Gekko or anything but I would think future revenue and worth are taken into account when you sell a business. If I have a lemonade stand with $75 worth of product and funds to its name and it profits $20 a day, I am not going to sell it for that $75. I am going to sell it for $75 plus a lot of days worth of that profit.

And if a situation like MS and Minecraft comes along where the buyer is interested in expanding it and making it even more profitable, then I am going to sell it for a lot more than it's worth to me.

But honestly, how would anyone other than an exec at Microsoft be able to answer your question, or even judge the buy in an educated manner? We are forum dwellers. We have no idea what MS plans to do with the IP.

Thanks for the honest answer...

My only grief is with people certainty that it was worth 2.5B but can't explain how they would recoup... and anyway in the case of market cap of 0.2B and revenue of 0.35B (not even calculating income) it probably wouldn't be worth 2.5B... but since Seece said most don't know the value and that my numbers were wrong (altough sourced), but don't put any source and say I said numbers I never said then it's strange...

And from the people that think it's good investiment even if it's just a guess it would be a good exercise to try and come with how to have ROI on it then say it is good, not just say that just because MS paid it then it is worth it and they will certainly make that money in 6 months.

I for one think as IP+dev they aren't even close to that value, but as people said using it for merchandising, bringing more people to windows phone, etc it probably won't ever recoupe that money directly but could have a net effect greater than investiment... for us forum dwellers we will have to wait and see what good things MS will do with the adquisition.

What make you happy on hearing Sony bleeding money? It isn't like that would end up in our pocket.

Hope that brings good fruits, Xperia phone and PSVita with 3G should have been negotiated as well at the time.

Oh yeah, I've heard about Sony's deal with Viacom. Netflix did wonders for the PS3, so I'm curious to see how this will turn out.

Mojang is valued that high because of the 50+ million mojang accounts it has.. turn/hook those into outlook accounts and you have 50+ million extra people into your ecosystem.. to have that incredible big community hooked into MS's ecosystem is worth 2.5B.. especially the amount of young players it has.. even from those 50 million if like 5 million young kids would get a MS account.. thats like 20 million dollar alone on viewable ads in outlook per year.. and thats only from ads in outlook..thats not even counting if they actually click on an ad..  say they buy office 360 later on cause they had good experience with MS because of Minecraft.. personal data and getting people into your ecosystem is an incredibly huge thing right now..

Google earns on average 4 buck per gmail account per year on displaying ad words.. they have 400 million gmail accounts.. and thats not even counting the data selling stuff or when people actually click on the ads.. you can do the math.. surely there will be overlap in the 50 million but to have the chance to have say like add 20~30 million users for 2.5 billion with the potential to have long term relationship with the user.. good deal

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Holy crap. Drop those phones. PS4, it's up to you, little buddy.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

Well, that was one of the reasons the deal had gone through, the fact that Fox,Disney and two more big content companies also in further talks right now, among all cable providers for basic channels in cable and sat. Viacom hold

25% of the Market, and above a determined Apple and Google and even Microsoft Sony was able to secure this deal. On top of that if you look at every OTA tv station running Antenna HDTv channels classic Tv , most of that content classic Tv is screen gems!

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_Gems

If you look at the classic Tv channels being on every 2nd tier Tv OTA , Sony pretty much has content shown every day across every regular OTA TV station in the North American Tv market. Thats a pretty big deal, since pretty much all US Tv stations now have a classic Tv channel!

This constant year after year loss. This has to bring moral and overall investment at Sony down in every division. Even profitable divisions have to be affected.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
