I'm not Gordon Gekko or anything but I would think future revenue and worth are taken into account when you sell a business. If I have a lemonade stand with $75 worth of product and funds to its name and it profits $20 a day, I am not going to sell it for that $75. I am going to sell it for $75 plus a lot of days worth of that profit. And if a situation like MS and Minecraft comes along where the buyer is interested in expanding it and making it even more profitable, then I am going to sell it for a lot more than it's worth to me. But honestly, how would anyone other than an exec at Microsoft be able to answer your question, or even judge the buy in an educated manner? We are forum dwellers. We have no idea what MS plans to do with the IP. |
Thanks for the honest answer...
My only grief is with people certainty that it was worth 2.5B but can't explain how they would recoup... and anyway in the case of market cap of 0.2B and revenue of 0.35B (not even calculating income) it probably wouldn't be worth 2.5B... but since Seece said most don't know the value and that my numbers were wrong (altough sourced), but don't put any source and say I said numbers I never said then it's strange...
And from the people that think it's good investiment even if it's just a guess it would be a good exercise to try and come with how to have ROI on it then say it is good, not just say that just because MS paid it then it is worth it and they will certainly make that money in 6 months.
I for one think as IP+dev they aren't even close to that value, but as people said using it for merchandising, bringing more people to windows phone, etc it probably won't ever recoupe that money directly but could have a net effect greater than investiment... for us forum dwellers we will have to wait and see what good things MS will do with the adquisition.
