How do I play this game, I'm just button mashing! There's no instructions either, I'll give an EU demo code to the best explanation (make sure you include controls explanation).

Double Edit: Also for power attacks (called Smash Attacks), simultaneously hit the direction (Up/Left/Right/Down) with the "A" Button. Every character has 3!!!

A and B both attack.  However, you can use either button along with the analog stick to perform attacks such as A-down or B-up.  These not only affect direction, but also what type of attack it actually is.
