Forums - Gaming - 50% of US PC gamers Wait for Sales Instead of Paying Full Prce for Games

In consoles though, what often happens is that the majority of the sales come from the first week. This further proves that console gamers are the most loyal and the ones that keep the industry moving forward.

on the other hand on consoles 78% regularly buy used games where the developers get nothing. And 12% of them don't even buy new games. At least the people buying discounted games on PC are still giving the publishers money. Hell 50% of gamers regularly waiting for sales seems a rosy stat in comparison.

As you can see taking stats out of context makes them easy to spin.

And where did you get your numbers? I never got to buy a used game, because I love my games fresh, clean and shiny OR digital sometimes. But 78% seems kinda biased without a hard-cold proof to support it.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

I buy all my games used, or it must be in a sale. I have also never bought a game digitally.

And that stupid DRM on PC games needs to go away not sure if that it is still there, but COH did have that.

The last game I bought for full price on anything other than Vita was Zelda: Skyward Sword Limited Edition, cause it came with the awesome limited golden WiiMote. I buy new Vita games to support the system and because the day 1 price is around 30 Euro, I wouldn't be doing it if they were more expensive. I can wait for a sale, my backlog is massive either way.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Last PC game I got at full price was Total War: Shogun 2. That was like 5 years ago.

I'll buy Total War games at full price and very rarely other games. But on the whole nothing

Civ Beyond Earth is tempting (especially with the Unity delay), but I'm happy to wait knowing it will be half price at Christmas. You can also take advantage of Steamworks games and save a bit by buying physically if you get lucky

The funny thing is I'm still perfectly happy to buy console games the day the come out at full price. Maybe fewer than before, but I still get it day 1 most of the time

On the other hand, I've spent more on Star Citizen than everything else....

Wow 50% of US PC gamers buy most (all? It's not clear their methodology for this) their games at full price? Seems much higher than I would have expected.

I had that same reaction. 50% is higher than I expected. Of course the higher the better, as the industry depends on those people.

who buys pc games at fullprice? day one, yes, but fullprice? steamkeys are the key...

I don't even buy most console games full price, nevermind PC so I am not surprised.

Waiting is not just about SW price, it also provides savings on HW, allowing to be fine playing on a cheaper PC. But it's not just about money, waiting helps avoiding crappy games too, and it makes good ones more enjoyable for many reasons: the wait itself, playing an already debugged and more stable version and often having some expansions included too.
