The way I read it was that he didn't mean much by this vote since he mentions the possibility of prof joking and says that it's to "get the ball rolling"

At this point, I'm still thinking Nickels is making an early vote to fish out a react (mainly because his reasoning is so very weak)

Again, I see this as early Day banter i.e. I don't think Carl really believed his own accusation

That's the start of what will later be the main confrontation point between the two
Then there's the whole "I'm a liability to the Town" drama and later.

I'll say that when I read the impertinence's post I understood what he meant (Will you be following theprof's vote this time too?) but I can also see why Carl would think Nickels's comment was aimed at him since that quoted post includes the vote for Carl.
Then there's a back and forth about Day talk where Nickels accuses Carl of slipping about Day talk and another argument over Carl rewriting history.
For the Day Talk slip, I didn't see it as such. Carl's post said that his behavior looked like he was told by his teammates to use a "feel sorry for me" tactic. What I think is by that point Nickels was so convinced Carl is Mafia that he's latching on to anything (or if Nickels is Mafia himself, he is trying his best to make Carl the target of a lynch should he avoid getting lynched).
The rewriting history argument seems to be rooted in Carl focusing solely on the first post where Nickels voted for him and on the other side Nickels considering the 2-3 posts he made about the vote as his original reasoning. All I see here is a pointless argument, between two players who have come to completely distrust each other.
