Forums - Gaming - Region-Locking is an outdated practice and needs to go

It is really stupid indeed.
A shame that Nintendo does this, it's really not great for gamers...
I hope they'll drop it soon, but the N3DS having it shows that they aren't planning to do so...

Perhaps the N3DS won't be region locked. Edit: Just checked. It is. I don't care about region locking, it's not as if I want a Japanese exclusive 3DS game right now.

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

Me!

in the main markets the hardware is often pretty cheap compared to the smaller markets, while in some of those smaller markets the software is available very cheaply

with region locking Nintendo wants to prevent the situation that people import hardware from the main markets and software from those small markets

one could say this protects the smaller markets, as official releases won't happen there if the hardware can't be sold at a good profit

ofcourse that argument looks a bit silly if the only company enforcing this actually doesn't release in all that many markets

I don't like japan type games,so dis does'nt bother me.

What annoys me most is that, here (New Zealand), it's just used for blatant price gauging.

Price of Metro Redux for PS4 = $89 NZ = $74 US

Price of Super Mario 3D Land for 3DS = $93 NZ = $77.4 US

Their consoles don't drop in price either and Nintendo don't know why they're doing so badly.

Metro Redux for PS4? Isn't PS4 region free?

As for Nintendo not dropping the price to their consoles, couldn't the bundles be considered a price drop since they come with a free game?

Piracy is the way to go. Stop supporting these stupid companies and their stupid decisions.

No no no. Piracy is wrong.

Personally, i couldn't care less, but i wished they let that go since it seems to be a thing for some players.

Wow, he could at least pretend to tell the truth. ; _ ;

I don't consider it a price drop when you have to purchase an entire console for you to get the game for free...
