I think Microsoft could do better in the Japanese market by opening at least 2-3 Japanese studios to create new 1st party content. This would also possibly make the Xbox 1 appealing to N. American, and European gamers that prefer Japanese games as opposed to Western ones.
I'm personally tired of seeing Microsoft buying timed exclusives, and would rather they put that money into creating 1st party exclusives.

Xbox is a lost cause in Japan. It's not going to happen.

13 years? I guess you're ignoring the years 360 received numerous Japanese games.

Nintendo is the only company I feel actually cares about Japan and they should given their success there. Sony and MS just want relevance in Japan and rely on 3rd parties to get it.

While I do agree that there were some exceptional Japanese games on the 360 early on, MS completely failed there in the 360's later years and the complete lack of any such games for the Xbox One's launch suggests that not enough effort is being given to the Japanese market.

There's only two Japanese exclusives that I can think of (correct me if I'm wrong), which are Scalebound and Phantom Dust and a couple of multiplats, whereas there are tons for Sony and Nintendo platforms.

In my opinion, Nintendo have the opposite problem. They care TOO much about Japan and barely about the West.

MS stopped funding Japanese games because it wasn't having a significant impact. Hence, those exclusives weren't moving much hardware.

Sony and NIntendo platforms are getting great Japanese support because those platforms have a following in Japan. The only way X1 is gonna get good support in Japan is if MS pays for it and its just not worth it. Sony is struggling to maintain its audience in Japan as well due to Vita being a flop.

Nintendo's biggest problem is the casual market abandon Wii and core gamers want more powerful platforms. The Wii U audience at this point is primarily avid Nintendo fans.
