Forums - Gaming - RUMOR- New Nintendo 3DS has no region locking and big NNID changes O_O

So how do you explain the CPU of the Wii ?  Is it a stock CPU or not?

Nintendo and IBM collaborated on a low power SOI power PC processor, adapting and updating the existing technologies they had already made for the Gamecube, other than the OOE arch that was modified for the wii, interfacing instruction sets (for gekko) and the new cpu, it's more or less identical to IBM's 750CL.

It begs the question though, what exactly are you trying to prove by bringing up a powerPC cpu, built by IBM for Nintendo, it has nothing to do with the ARM11 cpu in the 3DS, while the Wii and WiiU CPU do ultilize an ARM part (pretty much stock ARM926 to be exact), it's used only for security layer and IO.

The cpu used in the Wii is a modified and downclocked 750CL, downclocked from it's stock 800mhz to 729mhz, too.

What you don't seem to understand is, approaching a manufaturer such as ARM or IBM for a custom processor doesn't get you a one of a kind powerhouse, it gets you a modified part at best, the modification comes in the form of shared R+D, We'll scratch your back if you scratch ours scenario, CPU manufacturer develops their CPU for sale, forks a modified version for the client, reducing overall development cost for the processor family.

And just to nip in the bud the idea of bringing up the WiiU cpu, it's essentially derived from the same 750CL platform, just updated for multi core and eDRAM cache and merged with the GPU to increase operational speed, as an individual part however the cpu is still downclocked over it's base platform counterpart, again to save on power consumption and heat, something Nintendo have always done.

Tachi stop schooling people and come to frigging bed already

I don't care the tiniest bit about region locking, but if they're finally done with the account system that would be gold for obvious reasons.

FINE :P

Awesome but does that mean Japanese DS games will work on a European new 3DS?

Sounds fake as f*ck.

Well the same alien this guy is sourcing told me that Nintendo was cancelling Smaah Bros due to low subscriber base and lack of power In the Wii u

They will backfill Smash Bros with a Wii sports all star competition title ( will use Wii mote only)

Nintendo said (according g to source) the just could not justify releasing such an expensive game on the Wii u without more subs

This is the same guy that claimed the new 3ds cpu was 3x faster than the current dual core MPCore arm11 processor - when ARM do not manufacturer an MPCore CPU that's 2x faster, let alone 3.

End result: guy's spouting crap for follows/hits knowing when it all turns out to be bs he can just say "source was wrong sorry". He's not even going all out on the promises, "theres a possibility", pshtt.

Don't waste your time getting your hopes up reading his nonsense.

Oh, I guess that guy must keep posting vids rather than posting rumors.

The thing about the original 3DS... it's hard just to eliminate an old system. Since everyone is forced to use a NNID now it makes things easier. The new 3DS might actually be that stepping stone we get to having a true account system on the Wii U and New 3DS. The Wii U is an easy environment to update for Nintendo as well. A few changes here and there and blammo not stored on device game licenses.

Region locking I dont care if it stays or goes. If we lose it and we lose more games because people are importing games from Japan I wont be happy but I'll suffer (It's pretty much incentive for us to petition companies to bring this shit over).

Then again, provided this rumour is true. :P

I doubt it, but it would nice if it were true.
