Forums - Gaming - Sony Will Show Off Revolutionary PS4 Dynamic Lighting AR Tech on August 30th

Sony Computer Entertainment will be one of the main sponsors of the Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai 2014 show that will kick off on August 30th in Osaka, and the event will serve as the perfect venue for showing off the quite revolutionary “PS4 Dynamic Lighting” augmented reality tech that the company has recently introduced as part of its “SmartAR” suite.

The technology, that was first introduced at the Nico Nico Chokaigi 3 in April, solves one of the main problems that affects augmented reality, which normally doesn’t react to light sources in the real world, causing objects to look fairly alien to their surroundings.

The PS4 Dynamic Lighting tech allows the realistic display of light and shadow, better blending the augmented reality model with its environment.

Below you can see a render of Sony’s booth, which will also showcase the “VitaHoloPop” tech, that allows the PS Vita to display holographic images within a transparent box, and the upcoming game Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd. At the bottom of the post you can also check out a video showcasing the PS4 Dynamic Lighting tech which was published back in April.

Wow, that video is cool as hell...interesting tech.

I like AR better than VR

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Cool. I don't think it will sell well, or would it be better than AR imho.
Not excited.

Wonder why they used something as dim as a flash light. Should've used the DS4 light bar.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

same,.. but i wish the ps4 camera had better resolution.  it's better than the ps3 camera but it is still kind of grainy.

Pretty spiffy, but cant see any uses for it.

Now, AR seems interesting again, this was a real problem

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

interesting tech. but the world has spoken sony, nobody cares about AR

Japan... creating all this tech just to have Hatsune Miku appear more realistic in their rooms..
