Forums - Gaming - If Pokemon romhacks were published by Nintendo on the eShop, would they benefit Nintendo?

Will ROMHacks on the eShop end up benefiting Nintendo as a whole?

Yes. 5 19.23%

Yes, but with a long-term cost. 5 19.23%

No, but will do so in the long run. 0 0%

No. 13 50.00%

I don't know. 1 3.85%

Since Polygon apparently brought a couple ROMHacks to my attention, this got me wondering: if Nintendo published them in the eShop (preferably on the Wii U, of course), what would happen?

I personally think that while it would be awesome for Nintendo to recognize the Pokemon fanbase, and would end up being commercial successes, it may end up just diluting the Pokemon brand.

It ought to be cool having "official" Pokemon games that broke the mold, though.

(Oops, put this in the wrong place. Could someone place this in Nintendo Discussion?

Personally, I wish that these fan-developers would turn their efforts towards creating their own games rather than depending on the Pokemon design. The ideas that a lot of them have are pretty cool, but don't require the Pokemon IP to work.

And if they did do exactly that - make their own games using Pokemon as just inspiration rather than reusing the Pokemon mythology, the engine, etc - I'd love to see the resulting games put up on the eShop. Heck, they could even do a creepypasta game and put it up there (I wouldn't get it, but I'm sure plenty of other people would).

But no, I wouldn't want to see Pokemon fanhacks put up on the eShop.

Even IF they would benefit Nintendo (which it won't in the long run), Nintendo would never allow it. Ever.

I don't think Pokemon ROM hacks would benefit Ninty too much! Besides, I don't think they would allow them in the first place!

No, they'd never do it... Some of the hacked games looks cool though, and I applaud the efforts of the people making this stuff up.

Looking at the polygon link in the first post, I'd say some of the games already contains some creepypasta elements :P

What I meant was, while I can't see Nintendo ever allowing any of their IPs to be used in any sort of "official creepypasta", I think they'd be happy to have games designed to be creepypasta on the eShop. To my knowledge, no such game has yet been released on the eShop (creepypasta obviously going beyond just horror - I think the closest I've ever heard of on consoles is Eternal Darkness).

I don't think it would be logical for anyone to do that, they already have emulators to do that.

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

Me!

That's never happening, like ever.
