Very few people are actually talking about taste...

Nintendo typically have more exclusives but people are acting like PS4 and Xbox have no more then 1 or 2 exclusives announced for future. For secondary consoles it all comes down to who's exclusives you're next eager to play and thats entirely down to taste. If you don't like platformers half of the Wii U exclusives immediately become irrelevant. I don't like racing games so I never acknowledge exlusives like Drive Club or Forza...

Whether you game on PC or care about last gen releases may affect whether you view some of XBO/PS4 titles as exclusives or not. I don't game on PC, nor am I interested in buying last gen console releases if theres a shinier one out there.

Bolded means I'm actually interested in the game.

Xbox One

Sunset Overdrive
Project Spark
Halo MC Collection
Eco  Can't remember the name but its the indie one coming this holiday with the gorgeous 2D art.
Below

Fable Legends
Quantum break
Halo 5
CrackDown 3
Scale Bound

PS4

LBP3
DriveClub
PlanetSide 2
The Order 1886
Bloodborne
No Mans Land

Wild
Uncharted 4
Rachet and Clank Remastered

Tear Away
Plenty more indie games I can't recall

Wii U

Hyrule Warriors
Beyonetta 2
Sonic Boom
Toad
Smash Bros
Mario Maker
Xenoblade X
Yoshi Yarn
Fire Emblem
Devils Third
Mari Maker
Splatoon
Zelda

Enlighten me If I'm forgetting anything big..

When discussing a secondary console I think your list is missing all of the already released exclusives as well.  I know when I make a determination on which order I am buying my consoles in it comes down to established and future libraries for 2nd, 3rd, etc consoles.  I wouldn't be surprised to see others feel the same way.

Yeah, I know. I wanted to focus more on the idea that Microsoft and Sony's titles are all the same. They share plenty of multiplatform titles but equally a lot fo exclusives coming and a console is a long term purchase. They don't have a ton now, but the WIi U's first year list was just as barron at this point in time. Also just wanted to pont out the range in titles, so quantity isn't everything when you have specific tatses.

I think this was the reason why the Wii sold so well. It was a great secondary system after the luster wore off initially, and when 360 and PS3 owners wanted to try something new, they could always fall back to Nintendo which had a cheap price point, and if you stick with first party games for the most part, will get to see a highly polished system, and optimized games

The same holds true for the WiiU. Nintendo is the best 1st party developer.
Unfortunately, Nintendo has turned into the side girlfriend. You don't get serious with her, but she's always fun when you hang out.

Because you get two console with widely different games instead of two consoles where 95% of the library is the same.

If you're interested in Nintendo IP, sure.

This. Which is the most hilarious thing about the comment.

If you have a PS4 say, and like the exclusives so much, then surely XB1 (with so called similar exclusives) is more up your alley?? Why assume somebody that likes Uncharted and Gran Turismo will want Mario Kart and Mario ????

They're more likely interested in Sunset Overdrive and Halo.

The thing is, not everyone's criteria can be summed up as 'More Of The Same.'

Take Halo. When it comes to the list of System Sellers, Halo just doesn't do it for me personally. Not because it isn't a good series, I actually muchly enjoyed the Halo games back when I owned a 360. But because there are all kinds of other First-Person-Shooters-Involving-Fun-Multiplayer-And-Cool-Settings that will inevitably be released, it's just too MUCH like inevitable multiplats for me to ever, really, think to myself 'Damnit, I wish I Halo.' This goes doubly for military shooters, which I avoid for the most part, because after playing a Battlefield or CoD game, I've had my fill on military shooters for awhiiile. =P

By contrast, take Sunset Overdrive, which... I just... I don't know what the point will be, it looks messy, colorful and explosive, AND I WANTS IT. ._. Sure, on the surface, it looks to be a third-person shooter, but... I swear to God, YOU CAN USE PICKAX-WIELDING GNOMES IN BATTLE. From what we've seen of it, the Throw-Everything-Including-The-Kitchen-Sink, super colorful, openworld parkour and downright bizzare approach it's taking just gives it (again, for me, personally) a far more distinct and unique identity that makes it much more tempting, because I'm far less likely to GET that kind of feeling on other platforms, and so I will be thinking 'Damnit, I wish I had SO."

Now, bring this over to the current debate. Under your argument, if I'm a Gran Turismo fan, I would prefer to get an Xbox One for Forza than a Wii U for Mario Kart, because Forza is so much closer in theme and approach to GT. But actually, in my mindset, that isn't a good thing; I don't want 'like GT,' because I already have GT. What I want is a racing game that hits a completely different set of buttons, and Mario Kart takes the cake in that regard by a mile. I don't want 'like Uncharted,' because again, already have Uncharted, and that itch will get scratched when Uncharted 4 eventually releases.

Obviously my mindset isn't one shared by everybody, but it's best summed up as 'If I have Game X, and don't have Game Y, I am a lot less likely to want a game that is 'Like Game X' than I am to want Game Y.' The only exception is if 'Like Game X' does it WAY better than 'Game X,' which is why the fact that I own Playstation All-Stars doesn't keep me from wanting Super Smash Brothers... because, sorry, SSB is soooo much better. >.<

You took the words right out of my mouth. Just add that if you already had console x that plays game x for $400(less in the future), You will probably not want to pay for another X' that cost the same to play a game X', and also pay for online. But payig less to play gamy Y is a lot easyer when your considering the purchase to spend all that money, when your needs from your preference are already being satisfied by console x.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

It was just so perfectly at the end of thread that I had to ruin it.

I 100% agree with the sentiment of "The Wii U is a better secondary console than the X1/PS4"

NND: 0047-7271-7918 | XBL: Nights illusion | PSN: GameNChick

It really depends on whether you're buying it for Nintendo developed games.

Do you buy an XBO because of Halo or Gears of War, or do you buy a Wii U for Smash Bros. or Mario Kart?

If one doesn't care about Nintendo IPs because their tastes have changed or they were never fans to begin with, then the Wii U is a pretty terrible choice.

Ps4 and xbox one have a lot more games in common.
