It really depends on whether you're buying it for Nintendo developed games.
Do you buy an XBO because of Halo or Gears of War, or do you buy a Wii U for Smash Bros. or Mario Kart?
If one doesn't care about Nintendo IPs because their tastes have changed or they were never fans to begin with, then the Wii U is a pretty terrible choice.
