If you have a PS4 say, and like the exclusives so much, then surely XB1 (with so called similar exclusives) is more up your alley?? Why assume somebody that likes Uncharted and Gran Turismo will want Mario Kart and Mario ????

They're more likely interested in Sunset Overdrive and Halo.

Because GT, Uncharted, and those types of multiplats sell the best on PS4.

Edit - and yes you can.

First of all, it's possible for someone to own a PS4 and yet not care about any of its exclusives. It's also possible for someone to own a PS4 and only care for one or two exclusives, neither of which need be Uncharted or GT. And if someone plays GT, wouldn't you think they play that instead of Forza, and not in addition to it?

I'm also tired of hearing people say they don't care about or for Nintendo games. Nintendo is not a single developer. Their games are not all made the same way. Sometimes franchises change drastically from game to game because of a change in devs. People seem to assume that they wouldn't like any of Nintendo's games just because they're not into Mario or Zelda or Pokemon, and apparently think that is the be-all end-all of Nintendo software. I'm not saying everyone should buy a Wii U to find out whether or not they like any Nintendo games, but they could stand to expand their horizons a bit.

Mario and Mario Kart are not the only games Nintendo makes, and Uncharted and GT are not the only reasons to own a PS4. In fact, neither of these is a reason to own a PS4 yet. Just because PS owners are more likely to buy GT than most other PS exclusives doesn't mean PS owners (maybe 15% of whom buy GT?) all fit this mold that would choose Halo over Smash Bros.

Wait wait... so the WII U is a better secondary console than the PS4 and the Xbox One, right? That means the PS4 and the Xbox One are the best primary consoles, no?

That is the general position in the thread yes.

PS4/XB1 (personal preference) - 1

Wii U - 2

The non-preferred PS4/XB1 - don't bother.

Silly if you ask me.

If you're interested in Nintendo IP, sure.

This. Which is the most hilarious thing about the comment.

The thing is, not everyone's criteria can be summed up as 'More Of The Same.'

Take Halo. When it comes to the list of System Sellers, Halo just doesn't do it for me personally. Not because it isn't a good series, I actually muchly enjoyed the Halo games back when I owned a 360. But because there are all kinds of other First-Person-Shooters-Involving-Fun-Multiplayer-And-Cool-Settings that will inevitably be released, it's just too MUCH like inevitable multiplats for me to ever, really, think to myself 'Damnit, I wish I Halo.' This goes doubly for military shooters, which I avoid for the most part, because after playing a Battlefield or CoD game, I've had my fill on military shooters for awhiiile. =P

By contrast, take Sunset Overdrive, which... I just... I don't know what the point will be, it looks messy, colorful and explosive, AND I WANTS IT. ._. Sure, on the surface, it looks to be a third-person shooter, but... I swear to God, YOU CAN USE PICKAX-WIELDING GNOMES IN BATTLE. From what we've seen of it, the Throw-Everything-Including-The-Kitchen-Sink, super colorful, openworld parkour and downright bizzare approach it's taking just gives it (again, for me, personally) a far more distinct and unique identity that makes it much more tempting, because I'm far less likely to GET that kind of feeling on other platforms, and so I will be thinking 'Damnit, I wish I had SO."

Now, bring this over to the current debate. Under your argument, if I'm a Gran Turismo fan, I would prefer to get an Xbox One for Forza than a Wii U for Mario Kart, because Forza is so much closer in theme and approach to GT. But actually, in my mindset, that isn't a good thing; I don't want 'like GT,' because I already have GT. What I want is a racing game that hits a completely different set of buttons, and Mario Kart takes the cake in that regard by a mile. I don't want 'like Uncharted,' because again, already have Uncharted, and that itch will get scratched when Uncharted 4 eventually releases.

Obviously my mindset isn't one shared by everybody, but it's best summed up as 'If I have Game X, and don't have Game Y, I am a lot less likely to want a game that is 'Like Game X' than I am to want Game Y.' The only exception is if 'Like Game X' does it WAY better than 'Game X,' which is why the fact that I own Playstation All-Stars doesn't keep me from wanting Super Smash Brothers... because, sorry, SSB is soooo much better. >.<

well I can say the Xbox One offers virtually nothing different than the PS4 except for worse specs and a handful of exclusives

Wii U has completely original hardware and Nintendo is actually a game developer which releases solid titles

But hardly any games take advantage of the Gamepad, and the specs are even worse than XB1. XB1 also has as many solid titles/exclusives. Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Forza, Fable Legends, Halo, Killer Instinct, Dead Rising, Titanfall, ect.

Wrong.  Most games are in fact playable on the gamepad itself, which is great for those sharing a TV in a household.  Also the gamepad acts as a tablet, has a mic, camera, motion control, etc.  True the specs might be worse than an XB1, but XB1 has worse specs than PS4 and if you own a PS4 you don't need an inferior piece of hardware that does the EXACT SAME THING.  Also, Dead Rising and Titanfall are available on the PC and have much better graphics and performance compared to the Xbox One.  Killer Instinct is a niche fighter and there are much better options out there.  The other games I can't really comment on...

We're talking about vs WiiU/PS4, not assuming every owner of those has a PC strong enough or would even want to play it on PC, I wouldn't for one. That's still an incredibly weak use for the gamepad and hardly makes gameplay more fun does it? It's just another 'function' of which XB1 has plenty more.

Your opinion on KI is irrlevent, the fact of the matter is there are plenty of decent exclusives on XB1 just as there are on WiiU.

To say that is an incredibly weak use for the gamepad is a huge miscalculation.  Anyway, the Xbox is just an inferior "me too" console.  My point is if you own a PS4 then the Xbox One is superfluous, and the sales reflect that.

Unless you eat, live, breathe Halo but prefer Sony consoles otherwise, yeah sure.

That said I don't think there will be nearly as many people buying multiple consoles this gen.

The 360 due to its year headstart had a more mature software library which differeniated it from the PS3 and the PS3 being $500/$600 also kept a lot of people away early and the Wii had the craze of the Wiimote going for it.

There were valid reasons for owning multiple consoles last gen, this gen ... not really. This is much more like the PS2/XBox/GCN era.

Because Wii U is not part of the console wars. It's the neutral console everyone can buy. A lot of people are morally prohibited to buy the closest competitor.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

And WiiU's arent? And since when did we live in a world where everyone was a multi console owner?

Didn't you get the memo that says if you do something the rest of the planet must do the exact same thing?
