Europeans still love communism, eh? Hurt the big guys that are smart and make money.

We fought on YOUR side AGAINST communism, remember? Europe is capitalist, democratic and also has better medical coverage than you pay 10x for, because we care.

ill disagree with the medical care part.. socialised medicine is a piss poor idea.

Do you live in such a country? No. The US system is not a good example. Try the UK or France.

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

Eu = ambulance chasers, little harsh but partly true I think.
United Kingdom is a democratic country and that's why they didn't join the EU.
EU is socialist.

This is not good news for Sony and Nintendo as well.

Exactly, all hail the UK for not joining the EU! ...

It's not very nice to get fined in € when the Dollar is so low, is it?

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

At first i'd like to point out, that Europe didn't fine anyone, since there's no such instance as "Europe" that could fine anyone. It was EU that fined M$.

900 million Euros is a nice pile of money, and in practice this means, that Vista prices are going up.

@Legend: If you didn't read the article, M$ had more than 3 years time to put it in order, so they did have enough time to deal with it.
The fines are usually lowered if certain terms are fulfilled, like in this case.

The reason why "no european company" gets fined that high, is because they fix things after getting warned. In this case, M$ had 120 days to fix things before getting fined. At first the european commission placed a daily fine of 1 million Euros, then it was raised to 2 million and finally to 3 million. Now any european company wouldn't want to keep collecting fines for that long, so the reason for M$ getting fined so much was because they wanted to.

@Food: No, they're charging M$ so much because M$ knows their HQ is walled with gold bricks.

@ssj: Do you happen to know how well 8.4 beta works? Any big issues? I had problems with 7.10 and my laptops graphics card, so i'm hoping 8.4 will have better compatibility.

LMAO Yes, it does give you advance when you are one of the founding members. Let's all hail Norway for not joining the NATO. :o Now seriously people, it's been said (too) many times even in this forum, that M$ fine was ordered in advance and it's a day-based fine.

There are plenty of reasons to slap MS around but the European Commission is going overboard. 1.3 billion? C'mon, that's ridiculous.

I don't think so, it's still more profitable for them to pay this fine instead of complying and open up for more competition... It should never have come to this, but Microsoft seems to enjoy government protection in the states with the antitrust case falling apart when Bush came to power. The situation is IMO not really the EU's fault.

Action against Microsoft should have been taken over a decade ago in the States. One problem is that software monopolies wasn't well understood by legal systems and governments (older people grew up in a world without computers).

I don't mind the fine, but I think 1.5 billion is a bit excessive.

Well, yea that's a lot of money, but it's pocket change to Microsoft anyway.
