Erm, guys... the UK is part of the EU. And Coca-Cola, a country can very easily be both democratic and socialist.

ssj12, the UK's health system (a socialist health system) rips the US health system to shreds.

And the fine was entirely fair.

I know planty of Canadians that hate their country's healthcare system. Most come down to America as the doctors actually give a damnabout what they are doing.

Private insurance + your choice in doctor = A+

I don't know how the canadian system works, but don't they have an option to get the private insurance? And don't they have laws that shitty care may even get the doctor to prison? At least here in Finland, we have the option to get private insurance. I have private insurance by my work (collective for the whole company), my kids have private insurances. My wife doesn't, but she had one when she was a kid. I don't personally have any complaints about the public healthcare itself, but the lines are shit. It usually takes months to get into an operation or you may have to wait for hours to get to see the doctor, if you don't have anything that requires immediate care. So what about if you don't have the money for insurance? How are you going to get treatment and medication? Thanks for the link. Have to check it out. So it installs itself over Windows, without running the OS from live CD? It doesn't really matter to me, since as soon as i get Ubuntu to work on my laptop, Vista is gone.

Same over here(Poland), the wait is long for public health but private or flat out paying resolves that issue.  It has its problems but still prefer it over the insurance i have in the US.

Since when did the UK = Canada? I know we share the same Queen, and both play in the Commonwealth Games, but that's really as far as it goes.

Canada has the same healthcare system as the UK.

the US's main public healthcare is great. It supports children's health quite well and does a half way decent job with everyone else.  You can also get private healthcare, like my family, or pay flat-rate

European governments have a twisted sense of economic justice. These are the same governments that fund commercial enterprises to compete with privately owned commercial enterprises. Microsoft flaunted the last fine, and they will flaunt this fine, and why should they cede an economic advantage they earned. Windows isn't a god given gift to the world its the property of a corporation. Europe has a problem with that I suppose they can fund their own software company to develop a operating system.

You might gather I take issue with Europe's trading practices. Much of the rest of the world has similar issues. Excessive tariffs, standardization, unfair competition always favoring the local company over the one based in another country. So I put very little credence in what European's consider to be fair or unfair. When a free trade economy says the competition is unfair then I take greater interest.

I didn't get what you actually meant by funding commercial companies to compete other commercial companies? Actually the EU laws forbids governments to favor companies of one country over the other. That is inside EU of course. Twisted sense of economical justice would be killing the competition, not support it. The problem is the Windows (practical) monopoly, which they use to kill the competition.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

The Fine sounds fair to me for two reasons. one Microsoft is selling their products in the European Union and should abide by their laws. Two if an European company breaks the law in the United States it is subject to our law and standards. on another note I wish that people would stop equating dictatorships with socialism, there has been just has many capitalistic dictators in this world.

Systems I own (Games)

Sega: Dreamcast (40) , Saturn (25), Genesis (50), Masters System (10), Game Gear (20)

Sony: PS1 (8), PS2 (60) , PS3 (5), PSP (12)

Atari: 2600 (18) , 7800 (10), Lynx (10)

The US has better doctors than Canada because the US steals all the ones that were educated in Canada. (due to the private health care in the US, they can just throw wads of cash at people until they agree to work there). Canada then has to import doctors that cant speak english.

Its cyclical and it goes like this.

Canadian doctors go to the US. United Statsian doctors go to third world countries. Third world doctors come to Canada.

Yes

1. This fine is perfectly reasonable, Microsoft had 3 years to comply and didn't, it's their own fault.

2. The UK healthcare system owns the US healthcare system simply because you have a choice between the NHS or Bupa. The NHS being the National Health Care system set up around the time of the World War (cant remember if it was 1 or 2) and it has worked for more than 60 years, that is impressive for a FREE healthcare system. Bupa is a private insurer and it works as well, i'm not too sure about Bupa though apart from that because the NHS is fine.
