Forums - Sales - Why is PS3 dead in Japan?

With all the supposed good news for Sony lately, people sure have been ignoring the fact the PS3 is dead in Japan. Sales are down down down to a pitiful 18,000 or less per week again.

Without it's home territory embracing it, how can PS3 be as strong as people claim (even though it's sales are not so good anywhere)? It's like PS3's skeleton in the closet, people dont speak aboput PS3's horrible, horrible sales in Japan.

Yeah, the 360 seems to have the lead in Japan, hopefully MGS4 can help out the Ps3 in the japanese market so they can steal the momentum the 360 has there. Ps3 sales are definitely "pitful" compared to 360's.

kasillas88 the sheer fact you are comparing the PS3 to the 360 in Japan to try and make it seem like it's doing well tells you how bad it is. The 360 does horrendously badly in Japan. So saying the PS3 is beating the 360 is saying nothing. It would be like trying to argue that the N-gage did well since it outdid the gizmondo.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

^ fanboy (Kasillas, not Zim)

obviously hes not talking about the 360 selling well. Hes saying the wii has been outselling it around 4:1 for the last few weeks, and in the region that the 360 is suppposedly DOA, the ps3 only outsells it be around 10-15,000 per weeks.

The ps3 sells horendously in Japan atm...

Agreed. That was unnecessary kasillas88. I usualy like reading your posts but this just go to far and adds nothing of value to the topic.

I think it's because of the high price point and the fact that most of Japan seem to have gone casual

What do you want us to say? The PS3 is dead over there, and that's really all there is to it. Nothing can really be done about it, as the Japanese market has become an afterthought. Even Japanese developers are starting to focus on the western markets. Square-Enix—a Japanese company that some consider to be the biggest Japanese 3rd-party developer out there—has even made efforts to mae their game appeal to non-Japanese gamers. When the Playstation 3 was still in it's early development stages, Sony said that the western markets would be the most important, and that the western markets were their primary focus.

Right now, Nintendo is the only company thriving in Japan. Neither the Nintendo Wii or the Playstation 3 are moving 3rd-party software at a healthy rate. If it's not the Nintendo DS, 3rd-parties will have trouble breaking 500k on a platform. Why do you think that we have have seen such a lack of JRPG's and other Japanese games on our current-gen consoles? The answer is simple—the Nintendo DS.

Sony fans don't even mention it, cos' they're too busy trying to convince us Wii's a fad, or a bad business choice for third parties... when there are actually as many ww 3rd party million sellers on Wii than on PS3...

Software sales in Japan are absolutely terrible for the PS3: 17,22 million for Wii, vs 4.22 million for PS3... how may 3rd parties be happy with such sales?

Even if on Wii, Nintendo's 1st party games represent a 50% market share, that's still a 8 million games market for them...

And as kasillas88 wants to talk about the 360's situation in Japan, it's not THAT bad: 2,44 million games, that's a little bit more than half of the PS3 software sales... not really a 400% difference, if you know what i mean...

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

It was pretty obvious that Japan was where the console war would be over first.

I wouldn't say the PS3 is dead, I think it's on life support. Let's just wait for MGS4 comes out in Japan before calling the time of death.
