I struggle to see this catching on given limitations around the globe with access to internet and data caps. Feels like we're a good decade from this even being plausible on large scale, much less finding a pricing model that works to make it appealing and profitable.

yea, you are right with that assessment, but it's good Sony is already starting with it, because there is little doubt in my mind that this is a viable route games can go in the future

yeah that is a possibity due to the limitations alone with internet access and bandwith caps could make it so that cloud gaming will never catch on no matter any many attempts any company tries.
I'd say streaming will be the cinema of gaming in the future. I don't think that physical copies will die out anytime soon but i wouldn't be surprised if let's say an uncharted 5 will come out 2017 on ps now and 2018 on as physical disk.

if this happens then i really hope Uncharted 5 flops like no other game ever before has cause this is basically DRM just as bad like with Diablo 3 or Sim City.
most of his fears look ridiculous to be honest
there won't be a 100% stream gaming future ever, but it's great for people who don't want to upgrade their pcs or buy consoles and just want to play single player story based games (competitve games don't work well because of lag), as in the near future game streaming will surely be available to any mid tier+ TVs
similarly it can be great for smart device gaming
Although it is worse than the DRM scandal of last year it won't be considered as much of a problem.
We all know why.
PS. video is at 41 thumbs down at the moment of writing this

i think we'll find a pricing model sooner but i do agree it won't be very popular this gen.
still,. i'll never get people resistence to digital in the game's space. dear god if i had to go back to CD's i would just quit music. i started netflix and stopped buying dvd/blu ray because it was just a waste of shelf space too. i hate physical media. i'd rather line my walls with art then disc boxes. i'd rather have hundereds of games availible to me without the need to get up off the couch and search for the disc. i hope physical media dies and the sooner the better.
I think in 8-10 years or so this will be a big portion of the game industry.
