Forums - General - So I'm going to an interview for a video game company next week...

Use humor to diffuse an otherwise possibly tense and awkward situation.

For instance, start with this little baby to get a little give and take going.

What's the difference between a ferrari and a pile of dead babies?

I don't have a ferrari in a sack in my garage.

Here's my suggestion:

Don't follow any advice you get from people on the internet.

Or at the very least, don't take anybody's suggestion seriously, though you probably know that by now.

Make sure to quote a few examples of how major sites and organizations have used VGC data for their sales figures or arguments.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Remember that you're interviewing them as much as they you.  Learn as much as you can about the organization and its culture.

You wont pull of the interview well unless you really believe you are capable of doing the job well, confidence is key.

Although this probably isn't news to you, here are some basic tips...

Be sure to maintain eye contact. If you are uncomfortable with it, try looking at the tip of their nose(and pray they don't have a booger hanging out). Probably a good idea to do a bit of stretching/flexing before you arrive to relieve some tension. Firm handshake, good posture, yadda yadda. When sitting during the interview, place your arms on the armrest or on your knees rather than crossing your arms or twiddling your thumbs.

When he or she asks you a question, try to take a second before answering the question. Also, try to use the right words. There is a difference between answering a question with "yes" and answering with "yeah" or "sure".

First impression can play a part in how people perceive you, so try to have a smile on your mug when they first see you in. Not some maniacal grin, unless you think that's what they're going for. :) Don't be afraid to smile.

Good luck with the interview.

This is actually good advice, try to hunt down information about teh company, and come up with questions about those findings that you'd like to ask the company. It's always good to show that you actually know something about the company you're trying to work for, and have enough interest and intelligence to be able to come up with questions about this.
