Forums - Gaming - are handhelds a dying breed?

I know this has been debated to death, but I really want to get people's thoughts on some key questions. Will there be another handheld, after the 3DS? The 3DS seems to be selling at a good rate, but it's not as popular as it once was. I honestly  think the vita is it,with sony. I don't see sony making another handheld gaming machine. what do you think about that? After that, what else is left in the dedicated gaming handheld market? Pretty much nothing, outside of your smartphones and tablets.

There will probably be a new handheld from Nintendo. As long as handhelds are profitable for them then they will keep on making handhelds.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

People also tend to forget that the japanese market is still very found of handel consoles. Nintendo can easily sell a 15 millions consoles there. You just need something like 20 millions more in the US and 20 millions more in Europe and you get an 50 millions sold system. Nintendo would just need not to market it at a loss and then bingo.

I think only Nintendo will keep the business going. Sony may release another after Vita I think, but japan exclusive.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

They are already dead in the West.. Only a matter of time that it happens in Japan.. Look at the support mobile gets from big japanese publishers and how much money is spend on mobile there..

If they kick out Iwata and start making phone games, then yes, handhelds are done for.

It will be one platform from Nintendo. Handheld with Wii U specification who can streaming video to TV. Two platforms are too many for one company.

Yes, they're a dying breed due to mobile devices becoming more powerful and more popular for "proper" games (and the release of Bioshock on iOS suggests this). However, Nintendo at least will be releasing another handheld system in some capacity. What it is, I'm not so sure.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Only the Sony ones.

The fact CAPCOM just put Phoenix Wright:Ace Attorney Dual Destinies on the IOS makes me worry about publishers faith in the handheld market, even when their games sell extremely well on them. However I am sure we will see a 9th gen Nintendo handheld and then even a 10th gen one.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.
