Forums - Microsoft - How EA Access Will Work, According To EA - Kotaku asked some questions!

I sure find it funny how we have gone from last generation, where Sony fans celebrated PS+ and how it was a CHOICE for gamers if they wanted it or not. Now that EA Access launches, it is bad that these companies are giving us all these cheap CHOICES? Funny how tables can turn so fast.

Sounds really good so far. The only thing I'm worried about is the types of games they'll give.

"Once it's in The Vault, it stays in the Vault." See, that's what i'vw been saying. Anything else would be brain-dead stupid, and counterproductive besides. I can't believe anyone thinks EA would remove old games from the vault "just because." They have absolutely no incentive to do so.

You know what I sure find funny? How the tables have indeed turned as you said and people who said that ps+ was a terrible service, because you're renting the games and you don't get to keep them, are now embracing EA's program. Out of curiosity, why is that you focus on the first group and not at all on the second?

Also, you know what's bad? Generalizations. Not all ps fans reacted in one way and not all xbox fans in another. I think Ea access is a cool service and I'm a ps fan. Same with Burek and others. But you seem to want to focus on ps fans and also seem to forget how "everyone" on the internet hates EA, just like they hate Origin. Did it cross your mind that maybe this has little to do with Sony vs MS and more with the majority of forum goers' disdain for EA? Was origin exclusive on xbx360? Then why did people hate it? For many reasons, one of which because it's the cool thing to hate EA. Haven't you seen all the negative threads about EA or even the company being voted as the worst in the States for several years in a row? Where does MS fit in all this? That's right. It doesn't.

As for me, I don't want the service, because the only EA games I'm somewhat interested in are Dragon Age games and have no problem waiting to buy the latest one for £5 at some point.

Well, to be fair, I didn´t say ALL Sony fans. Secondly, talkking about XBox fans reactions (and I agree with you, there is a high level of hypocrisy there) doesn´t really help the argument that EA Access would be bad. Thirdly, I DO think these subscription services are bad since I don´t get to keep the games, but I also realize that this is the future we´re headed towards and I much rather have good subscription services, than no service at all.

The good thing with these subscription services is that you will still be able to wait and pay later, will some choose to subscribe and other buy it at full price. Choices, it´s a good thing :).

I sure hope more companies offer similar things on X1. MS won't loose gold members since you still need it. But I would gladly pay 5$ for a Ubisoft vault as well, or maybe a Capcom one, or Sega.... yeah Sony, this IS good value for gamers.

no its not and you just proved it, how many subs this gen will i need then.

You do know that noone demands that you sub, right?

Right but this is what sony did with PS+. "Optional", free online, bonus games/discounts etc. Now it is needed for online play after they build up the userbase and people were committted to the service. If you think this is simply EA offering "choice" I have a bridge to sell you. It is the beginning of what the online pass was intended to do just masked as value, the same as PS+ was always the foot in the door to charge for online play and then once people got the taste of the free games and discounts start throwing on necessary things tied to the service. You think its coincidence that PS+ started with nothing but perks and this gen Sony's entire marketing is built around social gaming and now PS+ is required for online play?

If this becomes the precedent for third party companies youre looking at Gold/PS+ plus each companies "vault" to access online servers or worse. The same as Sony offered a nice bonus VIP package, get people into the ecosystem, committed, then start slapping on tiny bits of required cost so they cant get out if they want to keep gaming how they always have.

Yes, every company does this since it generates revenues. They start a service and adds things until we are more or less dependent on them. Rarely do we see companies do what MS did recently, actually removing things from the paywall. I think that decision came from them looking at what other things they might add instead.

So, I agree with you but there is another element to this: game prices. When MS bet hard with XBLA, i looed at it as some fun I could have on the ide of my regular games. At the end of gen 7, I now find myself playing XBLA games more than retail releases, simplyg becauise the quality is so good and the price is so low. Last gen, I put less money in gaming since the ends of the 80´s, yet got more games. What MS did with XBLA was a big win for us consumers.

EA Access means that prices for theses games in the Vault will be super low for those of us that doesn´t have a problem waiting a bit for some games. This will push others to offer even better services and in turn, push prices even further downward. When EA starts to add walls inside EA Access,we will have options of choosing other, better services, making the customer the one with the power in its hands. So, as I see it, this is a win-win for consumers.

Lies, lies everywhere. I'll trust their TOS over their casual words.

You recognise of course that such repeated and direct statements in public cannot be contravened by a public company with facing heavy (and successful) lawuits right?

As in, if having given interviews like this EA began to remove title regularly from the Vault without excellent reasons (i.e. technical or copyright disputes), they would lose in lawsuits a hell of a lot more than they would save.
