Forums - Gaming - Only a third of steam users run their games at 1080p

I did a thread on this a while back.

The glorious PC master race isn't what its cracked up to be. About 30% of them are running at 1366x768 or less.

27% have Windows 8/8.1 too. lol

Now don't say that, they all play their games at 4k/120fps with their rigs that they build for about as much as an Xbox One costs.

you also find many "second computers" in that list. When I use a 1080p screen and sometimes a small Laptop it is very well possible that my small Laptop is in that list even if that is only my second computer.

We also have no idea how many people use multi-monitor setups. All we know is the percentage between different multi-monitor setups.

Overall it should be a majority who uses 1080p or higher or multi-monitor setups. There are obviously also many especially in poorer countries who have still a computer from like 2002 with a much lower resolution but I don't think that this are the people who talk so much about their PCs in forums..

And Windows percentage doesn't say much. Many simply prefer to use Windows 7 and see no reason why they should jump on Windows 8 (now many start to jump on Windows 8 but only because Microsoft improved some stuff)

But the average PC is obviously not that strong. You could rather see that when you look at the GPU percentages even if that is also not very meaningful because of the way Steam seems to count all computers.

But if we really want to argue about the average of the rigs we could do the same about what the average power of consoles in households is. Most have still only a Wii or something...

Ha ha ha. Btw how can it be master race? Middle class race maybe?

I'm sure many older Steam games can't even be ran in 1080p.

This article is beyond stupid. The information shown doesn't actually matter. PC gaming allows for better potential graphics, or for you to get a cheaper PC. It doesn't surprise me that the majority of pc gamers aren't using 1080p. Most people who play pc games just have a few on steam that they use from time to time, and the pc's primary function is something else. You're not going to be gaming in 1080p or higher unless you build a pc with that express purpose. So my question for the author of the article is this. What point are you trying to prove?

For a community aka some vocal minority who are obsessed with 1080p number this news (66.67%) is "still" embarrassing.

how? its nothing compared to all the console war bullshit.

Yeh, I actually run my games at 1440p or higher nowadays. I got a 1440p IPS and I can't stand to game at lower than native res on it, so my 1080p days are well and truly over.

Hey! I'm a part of the glorious PC master race, and I can't just sit here and let you fool everybody.

Back in October of 2013, Valve unveiled that it had 65 million active users on its service:
http://www.vg247.com/2013/10/30/there-are-now-65-million-steam-accounts/

That number jumped up passed 75 million this past January:
http://www.latinopost.com/articles/3200/20140116/steam-news-valve-service-tops-75-million-users-higher-xbox.htm

Just a quarter of that is still over 18 million people. So, the minimum number of PC gamers running their games at 1080p dwarves the install base of both the PS4 and the Xbone combined.

It's really funny how I haven't heard any PC fan on this forum call themselves the "master race", but I hear it all the time from primary console gamers.

You know, no one is calling you the low class race because most games on your consoles can't even hit native 1080p. No one is hating on what you choose to play your games on. No one is pointing out that there are plenty of people that play their consoles at 720p, or that a lot of PC gamers play at resolutions over 1080p. No one is pointing out that the title of this thread is blatantly provoking PC gamers, especially when you got the entire statistic wrong (a third play at only 1080p, but OVER HALF play at 1080p or above).

It honestly seems like you are citing misleading facts and articles to push an agenda that makes you more comfortable and secure with your console purchase. It's like you are worried that your console can be outperformed easily by other machines.

TL;DR- Mind your own business and play your console, and leave us PC gamers in peace by not using sweeping generalizations and misleading facts.
