Forums - Microsoft - Insomniac Explains Why Sunset Overdrive Is Exclusive to Xbox One

Microsoft's ?

Sure. But would that be more advantageous to MS?

Or instead confine it to X1 to help move the consoles?

Anybody who actually believes they chose xbox one over anything else because of 'the cloud' and to retain the IP are, well stupid.

As breedinbull says, it's money. Microsoft chose to fund the game and thats why it is exclusive. Money..Money....MONEY!

If they wanted to retain the IP and keep their indie status, they could've done what almost every other indie dev has done and self fund/self publish or find funding elsewhere, but microsoft paid, the end.

Edit: Moderated - Starcraft

Sunset overdrive is not an indie game, there is no way they would've been able to self fund or self publish. Being an "Indepenedent developer" is not the same thing as being an "indie dev". Maybe microsoft did pay, but being able to retain the IP is a definite bonus. Sony has historically not done that.

That's exactly my point i wanted to make, and it's perfectly ok. They just need to say that. Why are they not saying just that ?

Whatever the xbox one can do, the pc can match or do better. So the only reason the game is an xbox one exclusive is because microsoft wants it to be, for the reasons you mentioned. And insomniac agreed to it (propably to retain the ip rights).
To sum it up, this is why the game is exclusive to xbox one. Not what they say in the article that generated this topic.

I'd rather believe in seasoned developers than non-developers people on VGC.

Obviously, the decision to make it an XBO exclusive was made long before the console launched. And it goes without saying that it's even more obvious that the game would have been better off commercially as a PS4 exclusive based upon the user base alone if not an ordinary multi platform release.

As an exclusive, like any other exclusive, it has an additional marketing bullet given the increasing rarity of exclusives on comparable platforms, so that likely played a role in the decision along with any monetary incentives MS may have offered in the development of the project.

We'll see how well the game does when it releases, but it's unlikely there aren't bean counters at Insomniac regretting the decision to back the current losing horse.

Well you know the truth. If you acknowledge it or not is another matter.

This article is just pr talk. The game is possible, as easy or easier, to make for the Pc. They just don't want to do it. You stated the reasons, i agree with you. And we are propably right. What else is there to say ?

Why would they release it on PC if MS want it on X1. Simple.

I will be in Florida on that date but I come back on the 30th, this will be the first thing I do. I will beat the game in no time

*raises one eybrow and looks at Insomniac in a knowing way*

Anyway, the game looks interesting, wish it was coming to PS4

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Sounds almost believable.
