i sure am thankful that the world wasnt full of you when microsoft announced the xbox one. imagine the mess we would be in. personally, im glad that complained and in return, got something better.

Do you know what a straw man argument is? You are very, very guilty of that right now. Shifting criticism is a very common and occasionally useful practice. Unfortunately you have chosen a very poor tool for doing so. I don't suppose I need to make myself clearer than that. Otherwise I'd be accused of being *ahem* aggressive again, won't I?

I'm not being elitist. I know that for a fact, because if I were to be elitist you would damn sure know it. What I am doing is tackling his points with as much aplomb as I can muster. Why? It's damn obvious if you read my posts.

I am well aware of this truth. But it seems to me that you've missed the entire point of this thread. He's complaining about a lack of games is the main thing I say is utter BS. He was the one to spin the argument in a different direction - not me. He's just whining about everything.

I agree that he has spun the topic but the point is not lost on me, no.  I think OP has a normal opinion but has presented it in a very unappealing manner.  He sounds like a spoiled child in his responses but I don't believe that to be the intention.  I think there's credence to him not being capable of articulating himself the way he should and we end up with "whining".

If he had presented himself more reasonably this thread would have came and went long ago.  No insult to OP's intelligence however.

i didnt mean to insult you personally, its just the attitude that you have about it isnt going to do this industry any good. its not you i have a problem with, its just the mentality. with your mentality, the xbox one would have really been.. the xbone. truly. i dont see how i m making a strawman. this whole thread you have been saying gamers are lucky, we should be thankful for the way things are going, the internet is a godsend for gaming and has done nothing but make it better, etc. am i wrong for thinking you believe all this stuff, or did you just leave out a bunch of  crucial points?

like i said earlier, i crossed out things i shouldnt have, and left things uncrossed that shouldnt have been. i was very hasty, but iw as making a point that MOST of the games on that list (a great majority really) were either parts of games that were taken out only to be sold later or shovelware. and a lot of remasters if you havent noticed (although MCC is a remaster i certainly cant fault.)

there should still be more games for the ps4 and x1 than we currently have. i mean, come on, developers have had dev kits for how long now? the fact that its a new generation really shouldnt make this year this much more barren. the equivalent to this year in last gen was 2007. look at all the great games that came out that year. 2007 absolutely crushes 2014, and you know what? the new generation certainly didnt slow that down at all:

metroid, uncharted, mario galaxy, bioshock, assassins creed (back when it was a fresh idea), paper mario, mass effect, mario party 8, call of duty 4 (again, back when it was revolutionary), heavenly sword and those are just on the top of my head.

also, i never said they force you to be online.  no games force you to be online.. well, besides all the ones on the list that you have to download, which is more than half of them. besides that, none of the retail releases do.

This year you get WD, LBP3, ISS, SO, Destiny, FarCry 4, TF, Mariokart 8, SSB4, Project Spark, DriveClub, MGS:GZ, Shadow of Mordor. And those are just on the top of my head. Even though 2014 might not be the very best test of gaming, It's still not as barren as many make it sound like.

At least on PS you don't have to be online to play the games you bought and downloaded from PSN. I've got several digital titles on PS that I can Play whenever I'm offline.

really, i recommend you reread the first 25 posts of this thread because i didnt spin the topic. this guy is the one who initially made the claim that gamers are lucky, or something to that effect, and thats what derailed the conversation (for a little bit). i find that to be an assanine claim, especially from somebody who is saying he has been around paying attention to this stuff for decades. he should know better.

I would say you spun the topic when your initial post was (paraphrased): There are no games coming out, then responded to the list of dozens of games coming out by crossing out all the games that you think shouldn't count because you aren't interested in them.

Also, funny to me that the guy who was getting on me for saying you were whining is now using the term himself (albeit in quotes).

i guess that list doesnt seem impressive to me because theyre all sequels with the exception of watch dogs (which was a real disappointment. and that is something im not in the minority with). whereas 2007 was full of game changers like uncharted, bioshock, ass creed, mass effect, and cod4. and sequels like mp3c and smg were just.. the best of their kind really. instant classics. i dunno.. my opinion of course but 2007 was fucking loaded.

... that wasnt spinning the topic. i was like.. responding to somebody.

Yes, you certainly misunderstood what I meant by straw man argument.

A straw man argument is where you pretend that your opponent is of a certain disposition when in fact he is not. You did this in a terrible way right there in order to make me the bad guy.

Here are the facts:

- I was never in favour of X1's DRM. I laughed at it and thought it was terrible.

- I never said (anywhere) that I was in favour of DRM. Nor did I imply it.

Ok?

Not only that, but there is no DRM. So what's the big deal? If you want to wrap your head in conspiracy theories about the evil gaming corporations then please don't drag me into it. As the facts stand right now, there is no DRM.

But there's more to it than that. Way more. Signing in online does not in and of itself mean that you don't own the game. Ownership is the real issue here. Explicitly NOT being online or any other such nonsense. And that whole issue has passed hasn't it? Is there any reason to believe it's coming back? No. Not for the foreseeable future. And even if it does, then there will most certainly be offerings without it.

If you bring Steam's DRM into this then I really can't discuss the issue any further. There really is no issue with Steam's DRM. It works fine and no-one is complaining. Because campaigning for the term DRM to be an evil one is just silly. I own my Steam games and I can play offline. No problem. I'll be able to do so indefinitely. Case closed.

MORE IMPORTANTLY than all of this is

again

I said nothing about DRM

DRM doesn't (in the way you imply) exist

Nor does it look like it will

So I just have no sympathy for you riling up people and being overly dramatic about something which is a non-issue. I WOULD NOT have discussed this point if that was the point of your thread.

BUT

The point of your thread was that there are virtually no good games for the consoles yet - or in their first year - or whatever.

With that point I explicitly disagree and I've made my arguments clear.

I do believe that's the end of it. I hope you understand everything I'm saying, because I'm attempting to be as crystal clear as I can.

Good day sir.

If you say a quote like "when are the games coming out?" and someone gives you a list of games that are coming out and you then change the way you meant the quote to be "I mean when are the games that I personally have an interest in coming out?" (paraphrasing on this one) then yes, you are spinning the topic.
