Forums - Gaming - So what is up with the names this Generation?

Dreamcast and PlayStation were the best names. Between Xbox One and Wii U, the latter is the worst. In my opinion, it's like they haven't put much thought into the name. Xbox One has to be because Microsoft puts a "One" beside some of their product names, like OneDrive.

atari is best in naming, first nurbers, than cats. than hotrod (first gaming console for playing inside)

What did Wii come from...like seriously were they saying "We" as in together and then put U after it for just "you"?

Saturn still puzzles me, like Atari going from numbers in a 2600 scale to name their hardware after cats, lol so cool.
Sega had the best names, period.

Mark III/Master System (hey man, I own THE master system)
Mega Drive/Genesis
Saturn
DreamCast

Sony have the most pratical names (until you Vita, damn you! lol jk).
Nintendo is good too, but Sega wins.
Microsoft made a mess, first comes the no numbered, then comes 360, then comes One... What number is next?
Atari was from multiple numbers to cats, amazing, but still preffer Sega.

what about gamegear and nomad?

Xbox One, and its previous 'placeholder' name the media used pre-reveal, the Xbox 720, were deeefinitely unfortunate names, considering the insane number of puns that were spawned upon those numbers alone. Xbox One-Eighty in the wake of the DRM reversal, Xbox 720 after the fourth policy reversal, Xbox One-To-Three most recently after Sony's quarterly report, Xbox 720p, Xbox Done, Xboned... I mean, yeah, every console gets shackled with insulting nicknames, but it's almost like the name they picked was ENGINEERED to generate the damned things. xP

Zanten, Doer Of The Things

Unless He Forgets In Which Case Zanten, Forgetter Of The Things

Or He Procrascinates, In Which Case Zanten, Doer Of The Things Later

Or It Involves Moving Furniture, in Which Case Zanten, F*** You.

People make up names for any console. No matter what MS named it there would have been insults. Same thing with Playstation 4 and all the insulting names it gets.

Gen 4 had best. SUPER Nintendo, and the Sega Genesis.... cant beat that.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Xbox one was obviously Because it was going to be all in one. Fun fact, the original Xbox was supposed to be called DirectXbox, as in a box with DirectX. However they thought that was to clunky.

Wii U has the worst name this gen imo.

PS4 is alright but X1 and Wii U are odd.
