Really? Any game you buy digitally your recieve points towards eshop credit. 500 points = $5 credit

You don't need a police report for them to transfer your digital titles to a new system if yours is stolen.   They ask for it for records if you have one but it's not required.

I get your current frustration of having 2 NNID's but you can put both on a single Wii U so if something happens to either 3DS or the Wii U, each ID can still be found on another device.  Those games are tied to both a device and your NNID.  At the moment, you do need to contact Nintendo to get games transfered.  This true and indeed a pain but it can be done. 

And, as I stated before, as soon as the full transfer system is in place, all your digital games apply retroactively.   You lose nothing.

Don't negate yourself the option of digital downloads just for the off hand chance you may need to contact Nintendo to get yoru games back.  Hell, if your physical games get stolen...you have no option.  I'm not defending their current set up at all.  I'm only saying your don't need to limit yourself to physical only because of the set up.

That's true. I'm just worried about the future and whether future Nintendo devices will have multiple profiles or not.

But yeah, I still do buy digital occasionally (I bought WWHD digitally, along with a bunch of older titles like Metroid Fusion, Kirby, and the NES Mario games).

Multiple ID's is al but a certainty going forward.  They put 12 on the Wii U.  The only reason the 3DS is just 1 is because they tend to be personal devices rather than shared (though obviously that still happens).  Nintendo would rather each person have a 3DS where it would be impractical for each person to have a Wii U.

Given that they plan to integrate a single OS into their future devices, mutliple ID's will follow along regardless of the device.

Good point. I'm still a little uncertain about going digital, but that's sure to change over time, and I'm already digital on everything else so the change should be pretty smooth.
