Forums - Gaming - It's time to accept it, PS4 has won the US this gen

I understand the OP simply wants to generate controversy to encourage more hits/replies, but it's still too early to say.

Next benchmark is the 10m units in consumer hands, which many working in industry say determines the outcome of a given console generation based upon past trends. That mark should be met by the PS4 before Black Friday.

The next mark after the 10m mark will be Black Friday sales, followed by the overall holiday season totals.

After two holiday seasons, we'll have a pretty solid, difficult to refute snapshot of where things stand objectively positioning into the future.

But again; still too early to say, but the safe money bet is on the PS4.

Didn't the Sega Genesis start off with a pretty wide lead over the SNES in NA, only to be overtaken in the end?

I wouldn't say its impossible for Xbox One to make a similar move. The consoles aren't even a year old yet.

The Sega Genesis was available first. For inexplicable reasons, Nintendo took their sweet time with the debut of the SNES.

Of course, a better comparison would have been the XB360, which started out with a substantial lead from an extra year on the market and outsold the PS3 earlier on in the product cycle, only to be eventually outsold by the PS3.

Another good example is that the Wii was always king of NA until the very end of the gen, where Xbox 360 finally overtook it. Years beforehand, people would have laughed at anyone who claimed that would happen.

PS4 - 3.76M
XB1 - 3.13M

Yep, impossible...lol

This about sums it up xD lol

@OP  Maybe PS4 will win, its certainly has a lot of hype to run with as well as being slightly more powerful.  Then again Microsoft has been securing a lot of big exclusives.  There is also this small game called Halo.....

But yes, PS4 may win, it may not but this thread seems a little premature to rule out either one lol

PS4 is more than slightly more powerful. I think Xbone being sub 1080P will haunt them this gen.

Destiny might be really big for PS4. Next year Sony got big games too so I think it will be tough for Xbone to recover and gap will grow unless it is cheaper than PS4

WAYYY too early to make a call either way. The lead isn't even that big, it can easily be taken back by Microsoft if they keep up the good PR they have going right now.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Like Greenmedic said, after the next two holiday seasons we will have a good picture.

Currently it's a 600k+ gap, and will be 700k+ gap ending September. M$ will play hard this holiday which is where things will get more interesting.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

I remember there were a lot of wacky claims and predictions regarding the Wii which I won't bother digging up here.

Needless to say, history shows the Wii plateaued mid product cycle, followed by a rapid decline due to loss of consumer interest by the extended market demographic largely responsible for the Wii's early success.

The XB360 enjoyed a resurgence in 2010 with the release of Kinect, catering to the same extended market demographic that bought the Wii.

It's really not as important as the core audience would have people believe.

The general consumer who buys consoles when they're under $300 probably won't care and will be looking at soft libraries/exclusives that match their entertainment preferences.

I expect developers will do what they can to make the hardware gap less noticeable over the generation, even if there is still a difference that only the most discerning players will care about.

Its definitely possible for XOne to still take the US. PS4 isn't outselling it by much in the US. I think Halo will actually have a good increase in sales for XOne and maybe even the upcoming Call of Duty could help with XOne sales.

Not sure why NA consumers would buy an XBO for CoD when it will run and look better on the PS4.

MS might broker some timed exclusive content deals, but nothing that would sway anyone looking for the better version of the game.

Those who don't care will probably be content to continue playing the next CoD on their XB360 or PS3.
