Stabs in the dark? That's simply false. These are estimates based on a lot of data, not stabs in the dark.

What data do they get for Europe? How on earth did they overestimate 360 sales in German by 50% if they have such strong data?

I don't really give a shit how. It doesn't matter. It's not going to be exact. Mistakes will be made. It's an estimate, not a sales count. It's the best we have until stuff like that comes out that gives a better idea, and while I recall the source you're talking about, I'm not sure I trust it, as I don't know it. How do you know it's as trustable as NPD? Right now, VGChartz WW totals are pretty close to what Microsoft is claiming, so if those consoles didn't go to Germany, they went somewhere. Now if you just want to mock the concept of estimating sales, you don't belong on this site, because that's literally all this site is.

Well, that would be because it was Germany's NPD equivalent.

The problem we have in Europe is they don't release official figures very often. You have to wait for manufacturers for the most part. The reason VGChartz totals are close to what MS is claiming, is because they revise them when MS make an announcement as they do when any other manufacturer does. The fact that despite MS's updates giving them a barometer and them still being so far out in Europe's biggest market, shows just how little actual information they have from Europe (it's basically pretty accurate US sales, incredibly accurate Japanese sales, then guesses elsehwere). But nobody really has information from Europe (barring the manufacturers and publishers who keep that information close to their chest), that is why as I said, their European sales estimates are stabs in the dark.

I actually come here for the community on the forum, if you just want figures, fair enough, but VGC Forum is more than just sales estimates. Incase you didn't notice, there's actually a pretty decent community to talk about video games with here. And most of the articles posted on the home page and on the forum have nothing to do with raw sales. So don't pull that high horse nonsense with me.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Around the Network

Nintendo needs to adjust eshop prices in general. Most of them are so high that almost nobody buys the games and thus no profit is being made. Steam sales show how to gain attention and how to make money.

A lower price creates much more cumulated revenue and profit.

I know there's a forum community, and a really good one at that, but it pisses me off when people complain about the accuracy of sales estimations on a site like this, almost as much as when people complain about sales comparison threads on a site about sales. Europe sales are lacking, but they're not always this off. Rest of World sales I don't trust at all though, I wouldn't call them stabs in the dark but compared to them the Europe sales might as well be NPD.

I'd say EU sales are about as reliable as "Rest of the World". It's not VGC's fault. There's just that little data and it's such a random continent with mixed preferences.
