Looks like they skipped a week of my hero academy.... grrrrrr

Just finished Darling in the Franxx about an hour ago, and so I guess the Spring 2018 of my youth is finally over.

It was okay overall...sorta felt like Tengen Toppa Guren Laggan (however the hell that's spelled) with more teen drama thrown in. Actually that doesn't sound okay. Hm. I was okay with the resolutions in the end even if it sorta felt a bit cheesy. Glad Ichigo/Goro happened, though I would have liked something more canon for Zorome/Miku.   

Anyways I didn't love it or hate it enough to want to write a long thing about it so there it is I guess.

This sounds crazy fun...I'll have to look out for it. Isekai deconstructions are still super amusing to me.

Oh but I'm afraid of spiders so maybe I'll watch it one eye open.

Winner of the most hyped Summer Anime Poll is: Attack on Titan Season 3. Not a big surprise, but have a heavy yaoi subtext official poster anyway.

New poll is more of a general question, but I thought I'd turn it to a poll anyway. When describing anime (or manga) names, do you tend to use the original Japanese, or the translated name?

I find that I use the English name more often, unless it sounds awkward. As a random example, back when I read Seven Deadly Sins, I always used the english name instead of Nanatsu no Taizai...since the translated name is so easy to remember, but with your average long light novel sentence name I'll almost always use Japanese (or a shortened version anyway). I'm curious if anyone will tend to prefer Japanese names even with easily translated titles, or if anyone goes out of their way to keep everything in English as much as possible.

Option number 4.

I do it quite randomly, as it depends on the anime. For example: Shokugeki no Souma or Food Wars.

Well since the dub takes a long time I often just use Shokugeki no Souma, as most people would understand that title more. But if I think the person I am talking to would understand what I am talking about with just Food Wars, I would obviously just use that out of laziness.

Or: Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e

Anyone know what that is? Well I wouldn't recognize it, the name is too long and not so catchy so I would just use Classroom of the Elite pretty much all times.

Simpler titles like Boku no Hero or Shingeki no Kyojin are more recognizable, but the english titles are also popular enough so they are interchangeable.

In terms of using the Japanese or translated title, I tend to stick with what I knew first.  That's what the work becomes associated with in my head.  

There are other factors that complicate that, though.  With longer titles filled with a lot of little words, I might use the English version because I can remember it better.  On the other hand, some of the translated versions that people decide to use are really goofy and don't always reflect the original meaning, so I tend to avoid those.  Finally, the Japanese like to shorten everything, which is awesome for long titles, so I'll go with something like "WotaKoi".

I liked the first episode of the beach volleyball anime.  The characters seem likeable or interesting and the art is nice.

I really hate spiders but ... she's just so cute. 

I prefer english titles especially if the publishers are using the english title. Everyone knows what you're talking about so it's friendly to people new to anime and it saves time on needless googling.

Depends for me @poll usually it's the same as poko, whichever name I heard first sticks the most.

Well as planned I did watch all of Tokyo Ghoul, TG √A, and TG : re cour 1. But before that I took a breather with Dagashi Kashi 2.

Dagashi Kashi 2- With the episodes half in length I like it and also don't like it. I like it because this anime is quite fine with that style, but I don't like it because I enjoyed all the extra slow SoL moments in this show. Plot wise it was disappointing a certain character was absent for quite awhile. The replacements were funny, but they could have been funny with the old character as well. It is surprising that this show got a season 2, but I am glad it did as I still enjoyed the plot and all the characters.  The ecchi was interesting, but just doesn't seem like the correct show for it besides with Tou and that in itself is awkward sometimes with the possible incest but meh. Also winter is depressing, Season 1 was so nice to watch because of the summer vibes. The OPs and EDs were fine.

Tokyo Ghoul- The best season but still just an introductory. Ending is awkward of course, but luckily for my binge watching of the next 2 seasons right after. Highlight was Kaneki vs Amon  and rabbit vs Mado.

On the other end, Jason was disappointing. I was hoping he was straight up the big boss, he seemed ridiculously strong when fighting earlier in the season. As well as the rare fighting from Yomo, a BA needs to fight. The OP and ED were great. Unravel is quite memorable.

Tokyo Ghoul √A- Sure it doesn't follow the manga that closely, but it isn't terrible. Its clearly not as good, but still unlike other certain season 2s of certain anime, I could watch this one and still feel fine. Half of it is canon anyways. Honestly with the way the final battle went, I was hoping it wasn't canon. But unfortunately I was wrong. The war aspects were also a little interesting with territorial exchange that is simply ignored in the other 2 seasons. OP and ED were forgettable to me.

Tokyo Ghoul:re cour 1- Barely better than √A. I didn't care much for Haise, but it just makes the hype for you know who all the better. Outsourced animation isn't too great, but at least it is kind of like an abridged version of the manga like most anime is. This one takes it to the next level. It still leaves me excited for cour 2. Again the OP and ED were great H.A.L.F. I may or may not read the manga depending on my mood. Feels like it needs the Gantz treatment of a full read to get the big picture. I am hoping they don't outsource the animation for cour 2, but for now that is all I shall wait for.

Well I'm dropping Tokyo Ghoul. I should've known not to get back into this anime after Root A. So apparently they're adapting 121 chapters in 12 episodes...lol. I thought TG:re was a course correction but nope! Basically since the manga ended they're rushing for the anime to reach the end too.

Hmm...interesting thoughts, thanks gentlemen. *strokes chin* 

I suppose I also get into the habit of using one name and sticking with it, even if it probably doesn't make much sense in the long run. Overall the key is just not to look like an oddball for no reason, if I plan to talk to other people about something I'm watching I should at least have a consistent name that people would recognize.

Well I started a few summer shows. 

Cells at Work is my favorite so far...not that it means much. The premise was clever, had me geeking out a few times, like when the girl tried to go down a one-way vessel or they saw the loli platelets. The main two characters have some good comedic synergy too. Looking forward to more of this.

Angels of Death is...interesting I guess. Supposedly it's based on a game which I only know from the VGC home page, though the character designs looks a lot nicer in anime. I don't usually get into horror but I like the main girl's design. It's important to support local blondes after all.

On that note, I tried Pokoko's Elf Boob Anime, which has another name I can't be bothered to remember but is something about a Demon Lord. Came for the elf boobs...left with a lot of cat girl ear fetishing. This seems like the type of anime that everyone will either hate or watch quietly and not tell anyone about. I'll give it another episode to see which side I'm on. 

Finally, gave Holmes in Kyoto a look-see, since it had that girl-meets-boy/boy-meets-girl setup I dig. It looks nice, but it kinda reminds me of that Sakurako anime from a few years ago about the woman that digs up bones or whatever. Seems interesting at the time but also a bit inconsequential overall. Another one I'll give another episode or two I guess.

Have a few more shows I'm planning to try outside of the manga adaptations I'm already looking forward to...we'll see how it goes.
