I'll update the OP later since Versy's Photobucket link isn't working. I'm still waiting on thread control powers...but technically I can do anything except change the poll anyway.

Good luck with the thread Boom!! I'll try to help where I can (by posting I guess since I'm an anime noob ), and I hope it all works out smoothly for you!

In any case, I watched Ghost in the Shell yesterday (the 1995 film), and I have to say, I loved it. Out of the (admittedly very limited number of) anime I've seen, it is definitely my favourite. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that now I want to read the manga, watch the anime shows and films, and play through the games I had already assumed that I'd enjoy it though, since while I am not a cyberpunk buff or anything like that, I do love its atmosphere (in fact, that's why the thought of an anime that mixes cyberpunk and horror makes me drool, if anyone knows of any please tell me!!). In any case, I'm glad that I finally took the initiative to watch it.

I have never watched the original movie but I watched both series and they're quite interesting. It's basically porn if you like cyberpunk and thrillers.

They have a lot of thought put into them and aren't as painfully westernized as shit like Psycho Pass.

Finished step 1 of my 97 episode plan,

All of Little Witch Academia on Netflix. Show has quite some quality to it, however it is a little too episodic for me. The overall story was decent, and I liked the characters. Bits of humor here and there and good atmosphere. Overall pretty solid.

As a bonus I also watched Magi: Adventure of Sinbad. Since I watched the original Magi, it was quite enjoyable. Beginning was interesting, middle was awesome, and the end was hilarious. Also that post credits scene made me want more Magi...

Yet to watch:
Gate
Shokugeki no souma
My Hero Academia.

Anyone seen Gate? Looks mediocre, but I want to give it the benefit of doubt. The other 2 are highly praised.

I dropped Gate after the first EP but it's praised by a lot of people. Just watch the first few eps and decide if it's too generic and trashy for you.

Niiiice! I haven't seen the first GITS in a while, but it's amazing! Saw it for the first time about a year ago. It's great...I really like the atmosphere. I will say though, from what I know the adaptations and source material are widely different. From what I understand, the manga is more joking and a lot more about the author doing wacky insane sci fi bullshit. Like the Major programming porn! The movie is a lot different. Standalone Complex from what I understand is the closest to the manga. But i'm just going off what hardcore GITS fans say, I can't say from personal experience.

Finally! Someone who complains about Psycho Pass!

Thread :

Anyways, I just watched the first 2 episodes of made in the abyss. So far, it's really good! I definitely need to watch more anime and this seems like a great star!

Eh if I watch an episode or 2 I don't usually drop it. It just takes me longer to finish it.  Last show I dropped after watching multiple episodes was Ultimate Otaku Teacher and those episodes were spread out like 2 a month before I found it hopeless to continue.

Made In Abyss is getting nearer to Nanachi but also closer to pain.

There are good things about Gate and bad things.  I love the premise (though it's not that original) and the first part is really fun.  However, after awhile it turns into an advertisement for the Japanese military and how much better the MC & Friends are than everyone else.  I got tired of that and dropped it.  It has this facade of being realistic but that makes the ridiculous parts stand out even more.

It feels like one of those manga/anime that exists as wish fulfillment for the author.  Everyone is stupid and weak except the good guys.

So they don't seem to make use of all the extra episodes to do something new? For a double cours anime, I was hoping to not get a repetitive anime. As much flak as SAO gets, at least each cours they change scenery.

To be honest, I read a lot more of the manga than I watched of the anime.  I dropped the anime in the first season.

The manga gets really political and tries to do the in-depth economic thing made popular in other manga.  The Japanese basically go in and manipulate the ignorant savages, which is written to make them look heroic and bad-ass.  There is less adventuring and more posturing.

I think I'll stop watching anime altogether again.

Just finished The Count of Monte Cristo. I haven't read the book, so I can't be sure if the adaptation is tight or just following anime cliches. You spent 22 episodes building up the main plot... You were going very well even if the setting would be nonsensical sometimes... But you had to ruin it, didn't you? You had to follow the stupid shounen rule that your main guy must survive everything and anything that might pose a threat to him and live happily ever after anyway.

The "real" ending/finale was rushed, some bullshit happens, and then BAM! "Everybody say love! Everybody is forgiven! Oh and let me KISS YOU to destroy that sort of demon living inside of you".

Very good plot (adaptation of course, can't expect such storytelling and characters from anime), beautiful art style and soundtrack, awful setting (people don't have phones but they can travel at light speeds and ride mechas), and awful ending.

Random Madao sighting in Hajimete no Gal.

His reaction to appearing in a show like this:

Fox Spirit Matchmaker is a really weird show. The parts in the present are kinda boring and lame, while the backstory sequences are really well done and emotional. It's almost like two different shows combined into one.
