According to Bungie, over 4.6 million people participated in the Destiny beta.

From IGN, "Bungie COO Pete Parsons said, "We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta. We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable. We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we’ll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch.”"

Knowing this number, what do you guys think? Was it just a bunch of people unsure of the hype and wanting to test it out? Or was it a bunch of people that are really excited for this game? Most likely both. I know I fit in the former category and personally, I am now really looking forward to the release of this game. Why did you try the beta?

Even if not all these participations result in sales, it will probably very easily beat 5 million in the first 2 weeks.

Hmm, it's a lot but considering that it was available for everyone at the end and considering that the beta run on four different consoles it's not really more as you would expect.
