85 million software sales (PS3 + PS4 + PSP + Vita) according to Sony (retail + digital)
26.2 million software sales (PS3 + PS4 + PSP + Vita) according to VGC (only retail)

Digital vs. Retail 2:1 or retail sales undertracked?

Probably undertracked in Europe by a bit just like the PS4 is. Wonder what they count towards digital sales.

You have to assume digital only titles like Transistor, Resogun, etc are included in the number.

so while VGC most likely is undertracking its probably not quite as severe as it looks.

I gotta say the Gaming Division posting a 43 million dollar profit right now is impressive.

1. The PS4 is costing them more to produce now than it ever will. As time passes they can get manufacturing cheaper and a higher profit margin on the hardware.

2. They've released very few heavy hitting 1st party software title's lately. Once big stuff like Uncharted hits it will help.

3. There are a TON of big 3rd party games on the way. Sony will make some nice money off of them.

overall things are looking very good for Sony on the gaming side.

Yeah that's what I think.

Gaming has never been a great money maker for them but this gen it could be a little different, thanks to things like PS+ giving a good steady income stream, Sony not wanting to produce as many games that lose them money anymore and of course the general success of the PS4. Though Sony could easily destroy a lot of that profit if they mess up PS Now or mistakenly try to reinvest in the Vita in the west.

Yeah those defnitely, I'm more wondering if they for some weird reason also count DLC or even games downloaded through PS+.

Why compare it at all? And it's a thread about Sonys financials not only about their PS4 sales.

To be honest when I asked here to someone if the PS3 shipments would be around 85M, the thread owner quoted me in response saying yes AND that 360 were still higher (something totally off the subject and that meet what were are seeing now)... This is also the will of the thread owner, even saying that wasn't.

Ok, so I don't wanna dive into this, but after he said that he also said "I didn't start this" so I'd wager that a bit of frustration for the already ongoing derailment of the thread was the reason for that answer.

Hmm not sure

one thing I can say, from someone who works on the sales side of the industry, nearly every single Ps4 / X1 game has beaten internal estimates.

its been really Impressive honestly.

Nice, that's good to hear. Looks like the industry has some healthy years ahead of it.

Two important things was revealed

1. Sony is making money

2. "Sales are expected to be higher than the May forecast primarily due to the strong performance of the PS4. Operating income is expected to be higher than the May forecast primarily due to PS4 hardware cost reductions."

I should also like to point out that : PSP+PSV beat Wii U in Mario Kart 8 launch month.

More than that : if we consider like VGC that 10K PSP are sold per week, that would be 120K shipped for the quarter (more or less).

In other words, PSVita shipped more than WiiU despite MK8 launch! And actually, PSP/PSV shipments are less than 100K < to 3DS shipments
