Nintendo owns Japan. Iwata is to be named Emperor.

wintendo.

now they're stepping up production - the gap between the wii and the third highest is just getting bigger and bigger.  When they release Dragon Quest in Japan for the Wii it just might be a bit ridiculous.

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

Iwata is only prime minister material, Miyamoto for Emp!

Approx. 1 in 7 Japanese owns a DS.

I'm still a bit stunned at how quickly Nintendo usurped Sony in Japan. They are obliterating them right now. Not even the biggest Nintendo optimist predicted this.

How did anyone NOT see this coming from a year away? The PS3 was ready for an upset. In Japan, the PS2 barely sold better than the PS1 did. The DS started really taking off last year, and consumer trends showed that PS2 sales were beginning to become sluggish there - signaling a trend and desire for a different type of console format - a Wii kind of format. I'll try to find my huge post from a year ago on Xbox's forums showing exactly why I figured it'd happen this way. Also, Nintendo didn't majorly ramp up production, they merely held quite a few systems back for this week (remember the 2-3 weeks that sales were greatly below 60k?). Expect next week's sales to be 85-90k, then return to a normal 60-70k a week.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Could vgchartz maybe take a look at these numbers? Last week vgchartz reported 210k DS sold - but it actually were 250k. This week DS sales are at nearly 290k, but vgchartz says they´re at 250k - that´s a difference between 70-80k units in two weeks... Also Wii numbers were 10k higher last week. (I just wrote this comment cuz the numbers for both DS and Wii hardware were not adjusted after the MC numbers came in last week. Or is it because vgchartz doesn´t want to "copy" from Media Create?)
