Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft should give up on "The One"

For a satyrrical blog, needs much more effort (because to make any sense of the blog I must assume it's a parody)
Like: embrace XBone, cross-promote it with Pedigree dog food, with Durex Condoms, feature it on TVshow Bones, have a special line of clothes by Fishbone, make James change his name to LeBone for a day, use a song "Hip bone's connected to an XBone..." as an anthem for the system...
That's just off the top of my head in 5 minutes. Will make a much better parody blog, now it doesn't illicit a chuckle.

What was biased on the topic? I was thinking that it's a missed opportunity to cash in on the Xbone title while chipping away at the stigma currently surrounding the XB1.

The name is the least of the XBone's problems. But yes, calling your machine "the One" when most of its not game-related functions can be done by other machines that people already got, and probably better, was really arrogant.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Wait, the OP wrote this blog? Interesting....... Anyway, I honestly think "The Xbox One" is a much better name..

I always thought the Xbox One sounded more like the original. Xbone already stuck, so I thought the easiest way to change that aspect of it would be to change the derogatory nature of Xbone to a descriptive one based on a design choice. Xbone can be read as crossbone and if you had a crossbone themed machine with a promotion of one of your titles, it might supplant the insult.

Well, just to be constructive in commenting, I know most people were surprised when the name was announced. Some were expecting 720, which would not have made any sense at all, XBox 3 was out of the question because it would suggest inferiority to PS4, XBox Infinity would send a bad signal of them never putting out a successor (especially with mentioning cloud gaming).

MS did a great job by avoiding consumer confusion (by mixing it with the first XBox), they sent a strong message why it's The One device you need in the living room.
Consumers got confused by WiiU, but they were not with XOne, so that is one positive.

you are actually serious arent you...

I'm trying to be constructive towards the XB1.

I'm well aware that my suggestions aren't amazing, that's why I'm not paid the big bucks to sell stuff, but I do think the idea of rolling with the punches applies to this situation.

'The One' really is so cringey, but that's obviously what MS had in mind when they named the console as such, and so some superfans toe the line on it which is pretty amusing. It's never gonna be the accepted nickname for the console, but they keep trying. I just call it XB1.

Didn't stopped the Wii to have a shitty name and succes..
