This is my most wanted Wii U game this year.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

No as I don't like running around hacking and slashing over and over again

You act like most Zelda combat isn't "run up to mob and press A until dead."

It looks like any enemy that requires more effort in LoZ also requires similar strategy in Hyrule Warriors.

that's because it's not

I wouldn't expect a comment like that to come from a person who has played Zelda before

I know right what the fuck kind of bullshit comment was that. Of course there are the easy enemies in Zelda, but not all of them are like that and that's not all the games are anyways. I don't recall pulverizing hundreds of mindless enemies at a time in any zelda game, but hey what the fuck right?

Show me a game where the basic Zelda fodder is noticeably more than get close and press A. Gonna guess most of them are just that.

Any enemy that requires more strategy in LoZ requires the same strategy in HW it seems. So once you look past the Warriors aesthetic, the core is pretty much exactly the same. Of course I'm sure somewill think there's a lot of difference between mashing A 3 times vs mashing A 10 times, while killing 2 mobs vs killing 20 mobs. It's the same result just scaled up.

The setting is an actual battlefield, so it makes since for there to be tons of fodder running around as well.

if you check the trailers the only enemies that require some non mindless hacking and slashing are the bosses all other lesser enemy "bosses" are like the smaller enemies easy to kill of mindlessly while in Zelda you have to actually hit them when they are open rather than mindlessly pressing the A button.

there is more than just hitting the A button and any Zelda fan knows this. go play any 3D Zelda and see if you can beat the game by just pressing the A button :P

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Wait wait wait! This is a deal breaker. "A" is the attack button for swinging swords?

Switch it to "B" or no deal. Swinging swords with the "A" button is an abomination onto the Triforce.

The Redead knights, the Aeralfos, and the Lizalfos officers we've seen use their typical strategies and do require more than blind mashing to beat. According to the stream each stage has multiple boss encounters, and there are plenty of officer encounters spread throughout.

Let's not pretend that moblins and stalchilds are some kind of rewarding combat experience in any Zelda game though. We all know you just run up to them and spam your sword attack. So now that they're present in droves, I don't think anything has really changed. It's the exact same combat for fodder, just ramped up aesthetically.

People that play Warriors games tend to have more fun because they know how to play them. People who don't get the concept usually stay in one play just wiping out every single fodder in an area then progressing, which really is boring. You should be seeking out officers and bosses the whole time you're playing. Any game is boring if you only sit around wiping out every single spawn and respawn of fodder mobs that are equivalent to the starter mobs in any typical RPG.

Thanks for the heads up. That'll be useful to know.

(I'm worried now the basic attack will be on the A button. My instincts are saying 'no, sword is B'.)

So this game is a Zelda game in your opinion? LOLOLOLOL Let's not try to pretend a mindless hack and slash game is any kind of rewarding combat experience either. I do agree that Zelda needs to improve melee combat a hell of a lot, but it's hardly a mindless hack and slash like Dynasty Warriors.

I never said any such thing. I said it's a proper crossover and not just a skin.

I'm also saying people are putting too much stock in the LoZ combat and too little stock in the HW combat. Sure there are periods of mindless hack and slash, but those are just fodder enemies. The same enemies you mindlessly hack and slash in regular Zelda games.

I really doubt you're you're going to mindlessly hack and slash redeads and bosses on anything higher than easy mode in either game.

So far the previews of the game have me impressed, though I haven't decided if i'll buy it day one or wait for a price drop
