Forums - Sony - Sony ranked #8 for this year's customer service hall of fame

8. Sony
> Pct. ratings “excellent”: 36.5%

Sony Corp.’s (NYSE: SNE) track record of customer service remains strong. Sony has been on the Customer Service Hall of Fame list for several years now. This year, more than 80% of respondents deemed Sony’s customer service to be either “excellent” or “good.”

The success of the PlayStation 4 may be a good measure of customers’ happiness with Sony. The next-generation console released late last year has consistently outsold its rival, Microsoft’s Xbox One.

According to its website, Sony has some 5,300 customer service locations globally. The company’s 2013 annual report also touts easy-to-use products and services as a key factor for promoting customer satisfaction.

But while the company succeeds in satisfying customers, investors may be less pleased. Despite a 14.3% revenue increase in its most recent fiscal year — due to a weak yen, growth in smartphones and the success of the PlayStation 4 — Sony posted its fourth annual loss in five years. The Japanese technology giant also said it would post another net loss in 2015.

Sony is losing money this fiscal year from restructuring efforts. They recently sold off their PC business and spun off their TV division. These two divisions have lost the most amount of money for Sony. Neither option is good shortterm, but it's better to lose money now and have a much greater chance of earning profits later than not biting the bullet and losing money longterm.

I wonder how meaningful some ratings are. Sony as example should be good since many did really have some experiences with them but I doubt that many of them did ever have something to do with as example Hilton Hotels or if they had experience with them it was maybe already 10 years ago^^.

So, some should be representative and I think some ratings should be off.

"The next-generation console released late last year" - This statement just sounds silly.

OT: I've only contacted them twice. Once for a laptop issue, the other for a PS3 issue. In both cases, they seemed pretty good.

Wow, 8th in the world is really impressive. I've never had to use Sony customer services but it's nice to know they have a good one if I ever do need it

I've used them for PS3 issues and they always know exactly the problem whether it be network or hardware related
