If that market study that Nintendo of France showed, is something to go by, then there were around 10 million gamers potentially interested in Mario Kart 8, so I'm going to say it is because of both high demand and a low supply because of retailers not ordering much because of the past. Things should get better as retailers begin to order more, for something that are not Holidays, though if they only order way more on Holidays, then it will probably see a gigantic boost.

Its the population size that matters and I believe the U.K. 62 million people which is much bigger than Michigan.
